Major issue with the music server

I have loaded all my music files onto my new Qnap 462a but cannot play them through my various devices. Plex is connecting but shows a list of over 12000 tracks rather than the 12 folders I have already sorted my music into. Each of these folders contains sub folders of artists and further folders containing albums. I’ve also tried Linn Kazoo but this also ignores my file structure and I have just one huge list of tracks in alphabetical order so unrelated to artists or albums. On my previous NAS (not Qnap) I was able to play these without any problem using either a Twonky server or Plex. Is there a solution to this? Incidentally, I have tried to create a ticket with customer support but cannot do so.

Playing music with Plex Media Player is a little bit tricky. You get the best support using the plex forum!

Plex always wants to tag media and sort it in

Artist
Album
etc

The magic is Plexamp where you can have your music played via virtual DJs that do moods, styles, etc

May we ask which music player you’re using? Also, if your main goal is music playback, you might want to consider Roon or DLNA via the Media Streaming Add-on.

You also mentioned that you’ve already submitted a ticket — could you share the ticket number so we can help follow up on it? Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply Steve. Firstly, regarding raising a ticket, I was unable to do so. I tried at least 6 or 7 times and on every occasion the message at the end said I needed to complete all options. Of course I was absolutely certain I’d completed all fields and there was no field highlighted which is usually the case when a required field isn’t completed so I’m at a loss as to why that happened. Because of this I sought help on this forum.

I admit I’m a beginner when it comes to setting things up but my previous experience setting up a WD NAS was a breeze. I merely installed Twonky server and I was immediately able to see all my music files in exactly the same file structure as I’d created. Twonky isn’t available on Qnas and the two servers I’ve tried (Plex and Linn) both ignored my file structure and sorted all the tracks into alphabetical order giving me one huge playlist of 12,028 tracks. I did install the Media Streaming app but that didn’t solve the problem. I see there is another server called Minim which I’m going to try over the weekend and I’ll also now look into Roon as you suggest. Thanks again your suggestions.

You could always install DLNA via a container (If DLNA is what you really want)
