Hi,
since Media Streaming add-on 500.1.1.13 (installed automatically on 2026/08/27), none of my DLNA clients could see the NAS anymore. That included my TVs and BubbleUPnP on my Android phone. I eventually found out that devices now have to be enabled manually under “DLNA Media Renderer”, even though “Newly discovered devices are automatically allowed to connect to DLNA Media Server” is checked on my system. After I ticked the devices by hand, everything worked again.
The actual problem is the renderer list itself. Only one device (my LG webOS TV) shows up with a name. All other entries have an empty “Device Name” column and only show IP and MAC address. To figure out which entry was my phone, I had to log into my router and match the MAC addresses there. That’s fine for a one-time job, but next time I look at that list I won’t remember which entry is which.
I know it’s not QNAP’s fault when a client doesn’t report a friendly name. But it would help a lot if the add-on let me add my own label or note for each renderer, e.g. “Android phone (BubbleUPnP)” or “Bedroom TV”. Ideally it would be stored per MAC address so it survives a changed IP or a restart of the add-on. As a fallback, showing the manufacturer derived from the MAC address would already be better than an empty field.
With the new manual approval step this list has become much more important than before, so being able to tell the devices apart really matters.
Thanks for considering it.
