I just added 2 drives to my 6 bay NAS. My raid 5 rebuilt itself over the 6 drives and everything looks great. However, I was contemplating migrating to raid 6. I can’t seem to find a way to do it ‘on-the-fly’, it seems it is only executable when adding a drive. Is that true, or is there some way to migrate raid 5 to 6 now? I tried to find an answer and couldn’t, so any advice will help.
If you have added both drives to the RAID5, it’s too late to go to a RAID6, you need to do the conversion in a dedicated process.
All of this is only valid for QTS , not QuTS …sadly neither NAS model nor used firmware were disclosed.
f you have another device for backup, you might consider backing up your data to a different storage location, then re-initializing the NAS and re-planning your storage pool.
