Migrating the backup repository location for HBS3 Sync job

What steps should I follow to migrate the existing HBS3 Active Sync job from one partition or folder to another location without having to restart the full backup from the beginning?

My goal here is to consolidate the backup repository location to a newly created SMB File Share.

There is a function in HBS for relinking backup jobs but there does not appear to be a similar thing for Sync jobs. I don’t call a Sync job a backup as there’s no version control or anything like that. But you should be able to move your files from one partition to another. Then start the sync job mapping it to that partition. It should not start all over but rather it should catalog the files on each side and only update changed files. I don’t think it will start it over completely if there are files in the destination directory.

HBS scans both sides and only transfers what’s different, so files already present at the new destination get skipped.

Here’s the minimal flow:

  1. Move the existing destination files to the new location using File Station.
  2. Edit the Active Sync job and update the destination path to point at the new folder.
  3. Run the job manually once. HBS will catalog both source and destination, compare them, and only transfer new or changed files.
