I have NAS model TS-669 Pro and it’s been a while since I’m experiencing this weird bug for which whenever I try to shut it down, it reboots itself right after it completed the shutdown procedure ( it stays off for a couple of seconds and then start booting again ).
I’ve tried whatever possible
- disable EuP, WoL, timers and setting “always off”; shutdown
- enable EuP; shutdown
- re-update to firmware 4.3.4.2814 build 20240618 (here the download page); shutdown
- downgrade to firmware 4.3.4.2675 build 20240131; shutdown
- remove all volumes, clean the dust, re-insert all volumes; shutdown
- shutdown through browser GUI
- shutdown through physical button
- shutdown and immediately unplug the ethernet cable with EuP enabled
- shutdown and immediately unplug the ethernet cable with EuP disabled
- change 220V outlet
- change IP of the NAS; shutdown
- power it on, unplug the cable for the POWER button from inside, shutdown through the GUI
I also tried to disassemble the NAS and its internal power supply to check if any capacitor was bloated or any other component damaged, but everything seemed fine. I also tried to unplug all internal cables, remove all volumes and spray some “contact cleaner” on the motherboard, on the connectors and on the power supply components.
Nothing worked, the issue persists.
The only way to power it off is either unplug/plug it or to long press the POWER button (~ 10 seconds). Sometimes (but rarely, approximately 1/10) it stays off when shutting down with the proper method ( shutdown from GUI ), but it seems to be very random.
From the hardware side, the only thing that might be related to this problem is the fact that the “LAN” led stays always on steady yellow (even though the LAN cable is not plugged in) and the second ethernet port also has the upper led on steady yellow (even though nothing is attached).
From the software side, there aren’t relevant logs…
Note that I pressed on “shut down” approximately at 18:22:00 and in ~1:30 minutes [18:23:30] it shut down. After more or less 2 seconds, it started booting again emitting the startup beep after ~15 seconds [18:23:45]. On the display it showed “SYSTEM BOOTING” for ~2:45 minutes [18:26:30], then “LOADING DRIVER” for ~30 seconds [18:27:00], then “MOUNT VOLUME” for ~30 seconds [18:27:30], then “STARTING SERVICE” for ~1:20 minutes [18:28:50] and then emitted the second startup beep.
Any ideas of what could be the problem?
