I have an application, to be run on a TS-253E, that requires QTS version 4.2.0, preferably the first build. Is there a way to obtain this?
Thanks.

4.2.0 was released (2016) long before this unit was released (2022), so no
What mysterious app is it ? (Maybe it has a container version)
Thanks. App is for Sooloos audio streamer. App is also hard to find. Was running 4.2.0 on a TS-251+, which does not appear to be a lot different from the TS-253E.
GPU drivers would be very different though between J1900 and J6412
Good point. Thanks.
The internet talks about a Sooloos_QNAP_QTS_4.3.x.qpkg
Have you called Meridian and asked them for the software?
That’s the app that enables Sooloos devices to see the NAS, and it requires QTS 4.3.x to run. Meridian discontinued Sooloos some time ago and doesn’t support the products anymore. Don’t know why they couldn’t have left related software on their website, but they didn’t. Not the most customer-friendly company in my experience. Anyhow, giving up on the NAS and going to Plan B. If anybody wants an essentially brand new QNAP TS-253E with two old but functional drives at a good price, drop me a line.
Where is the NAS located? (Which country?)
What size & type HDDs?
And finally, how much are you asking?
USA. Drives are 2-TB Seagate Barracuda Greens. All original packaging, naturally; I’ve had the thing for all of three days. I was thinking $400. Won’t be ready to complete this till next week, however.
ST…DM drives should never be used in NAS devices… too many issues with SMR drives and RAID rebuilds (not meant for NAS)
Dunno. Never had a lick of trouble with them, years of use. In any event, they’re essentially free given that I’m asking 20% less than the price of the NAS alone.
Just in case your “Plan B” involves a RAID again
https://htwingnut.com/2023/07/01/smr-hard-drive-perforamnce-rebuild-with-parity-raid/
(Both cases are more detrimental to parity based RAID [RAID1 is not], but even here the non existent TLER makes RAIDs fail)
No RAID, and no NAS, in Plan B, and never used anything beyond RAID 1.
Hi, have you considered any other audio streamers besides Sooloos?
You might want to take a look at Roon: https://www.qnap.com/solution/roon/en
Thanks. That’s Plan B. Was intending to migrate to Roon eventually (same folks who started Sooloos), but this situation has sped me up. The trick is exporting the data from a Sooloos server in a Roon-friendly format. Since I have a backup, that should be possible, though it will be kind of a pain the neck. Would have been much easier if I could have gotten Sooloos to access the data on the NAS again.
