NetBack: "Unable to initialize inventory. Your PC firewall may be blocking the TCP ports 11172 and 11173"

I have a TS-264 in my home

I also have a PC in my home with NetBack installed and it’s working fine.

I installed TailScale on the very same PC and have configured it to be a subnet router to allow traffic to traverse the local network.

On a 2nd PC in a 2nd location, I have also installed TailScale and NetBack.

From this 2nd PC I can now navigate to the webpage of my NAS (192.168.88.160) and log in.
*I couldn’t do this before TailScale

When I open NetBack on the 2nd PC in the 2nd location I can find my NAS by entering in the IP address (192.168.88.160) and I can log into it, including 2FA, which it passes no problems.

However, NetBack then says:

“Unable to initialize inventory. Your PC firewall may be blocking the TCP ports 11172 and 11173”

I’ve checked the firewall on the NAS and it’s configured to allow all local traffic. I’ve also added an additional rule to allow traffic from the TailScale IP address of the 2nd PC in the 2nd location, but it still won’t work.

It’s not the firewall on the 2nd PC in the 2nd location either as I turned it off.

How can I use NetBack on the PC in my home, but I cannot use NetBack on a 2nd PC in a 2nd location that is on the same virtual network? Even though it can see the NAS and log into it?

Disable QuFirewall and check if it works then

Same thing happens :smirk:

Hmm maybe tailscale just does not forward these ports (maybe try temp incoming connections)
Tried to play with any settings here ?

Is that your topic here ?

It seems Tailscale assigns a unique IP address to every device within its virtual private network (which they call a “tailnet”).

You might want to give that unique IP address a try to see if it resolves your issue or works better for your setup.
