[Network and Virtual Switch] Interface "Adapter 2" connected - "Adapter 2" disconnected

Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your help.

I’ve been using a QNAP NAS (TS-253BE-4G) for years, which was set up by a friend at some point. I haven’t really paid much attention to it, but I want to change that this summer since I need a bit more backup security. But that’s just a side note.

Every night at 2:00 am (I guess that’s how it’s set up), I get notifications about the status of my NAS. That’s all fine.

However, since yesterday evening, I’m getting several notifications every half hour with the following content:

NAS Notification

Severity: Warning
Date/Time: 2026/04/20 09:30:34

App Name: Network & Virtual Switch
Category: Infrastructure
Message: [Network & Virtual Switch] Interface “Adapter 2” disconnected.

and/or:

Severity: Info

Date/Time: 2026/04/20 09:30:52

App Name: Network & Virtual Switch

Category: Infrastructure

Message: [Network & Virtual Switch] Interface “Adapter 2” connected.

It keeps switching back and forth like this.

What could be causing this? Is there something I need to check, and if so, what?

If anyone could help me out or provide some info, I’d really appreciate it.

Best regards,

André

Hi,

it could be a hardware defect (LAN2, cable, switch).

More information would be helpful.

  • QTS version
  • How are the two LAN interfaces configured

Thank you so much. It actually was due to a network cable that had somehow gotten disconnected—for whatever reason. I simply didn’t consider that possibility for one simple reason: the NAS has been sitting in the same spot for years. You can’t even get to it to plug or unplug a cable. That’s now a different phenomenon to explore. Still, many thanks!
