New ROON system requirments not supported by QNAP QTS firmware

I am running Roon service on this NAS device, TBS 464.

Roon has now scheduled an important update to the Roon SW for April 20th 2026 which requires LDD version glibc 2.27.

According to my checks QNAP has only installed ldd (GNU libc) 2.21 dated from 2015!

This wouid make the entire WW installed base of QNAP NAS server incompatible fo the use of the ROON SW, a complete desaster for everyone who trusted that QNAP would provide regular QTS updates which keeps the NAS up2date to common standards.

I do not use roon, but why not switch to a docker?

Yes, use the official docker release when it comes out.

I asked in a thread about the QuTS Hero version of firmware and what the Linux kernel is getting updated to, and they said it was 6.6.32. Since the kernel is getting updated this time, I’d hope some of these packages like glibc would get updated too. Sadly they still have not posted the 6.0 source code. What kernel version will QuTS Hero 6.0 debut with? - English / Firmware - QNAP Community

First - I don’ know if QNAP posts their source code - do they?

Second - I would not expect source code to be published during beta testing. This is not an open source project…

Thanks for the report! We’ll check with Roon regarding this issue.

Many thanks Steve, when can we expect a solid solution and not only a work around via the docker?

Unfortunately no update from QNAP for some time regarding this serious topic. That‘s not good and not really customer oriented.

I’d honestly see an official docker from Roon as preferable to installing apps like Roon natively on your QNAP. Long term, it’s a far better solution.

I would also set your expectations, that library is over 7 years old, they aren’t going to update overnight for a niche music manager/player.

Actually Roon is the #1 and state of the art music management system, far away from being a niche product. And QNAP is promoting their NAS as host for the Roon App, so they really need to care.

I know what Roon is mate, I am a lifetime subscriber. I also understand where it stands in the enterprise firmament of QNAP which I why I am respectfully advising you to a) understand there will be a reason they haven’t updated a library for seven years, and b) embrace the Docker solution being offered by Roon as it will free you up from this sort of dependency issue going forward and offers a host of other benefits anyway.
