I am a remote user to my friend’s NAS. He’s got a TS-932PX with QTS operating system. I’m on a MacBook Pro Running Sequoia 15.3.2. I connect just fine to his NAS using QnapCloud and can upload/download files okay, but we’ve been searching for ways to do automatic synchronizing of files across his computers (on the same LAN as the NAS) and my computer connecting remotely. For a variety of reasons, he doesn’t want to go the VPN route (at least not yet). So, here are my questions:
-
Without a VPN, I assume I can not securely connect to his network and thus nothing that’s intended to work as “in network” tools on my computer will work. Is there a secure way to do remote access that doesn’t use VPN? Is that alternative available to external users (not the NAS Administrator)?

Qsync Client behaves differently for him versus me. When he opens Qsync Client, he gets the application’s user interface and can do things like attach drives to his network, update files, set sync settings, and so on. When I open Qsync, I never see the UI. Some stuff happens in the background and I can see a Qsync folder in Finder, but I never see any of the app’s screens. Is this what happens/is expected if you don’t have the main QNAP software for running the NAS on the same computer as you’re running Qsync client? I think he’s running Qsync Client on his Mac as well, but maybe the difference is that he’s working in Windows and Qsync Client for Mac has no active UI? That makes no sense, right? I’ve reinstalled it about a dozen times now.

If anyone reading this is using QNAP NAS with LogicPro music editing software, do you have any insights to share on how to get around the problem with Logic Pro having issues trying to read all components of a local copy of a recording from the LOCAL drive. We keep running into the problem where anything that is originally saved to the NAS coming over to my copy and logicPro insisting that it must go to the NAS (the remote, not accessible as a network folder from my end) to find some of the files/components…even though they are confirmed to be present in the local copy. MS expert support has been great, but they basically said “Logic Pro will do that…” which seems like a really stupid way for the software to behave…like why would it even care about the full path information. It should only need to know sub-folders in a package/folder. Anyway, the solution so far has been for him to save the projects locally on his MAC and then transfer a copy to the NAS. Then, when I copy that file to my MAC, LogicPro knows to look locally for components of the project. Sigh.
