Hi,
I’ve pressed the factory reset button on the back of the NAS in order to get rid of 2step verification that was giving me problems. Now when I try to sign in with the factory reset passwords, I get login credential issues being incorrect or no longer valid. How do I get the password reset working?
Thanks.
default password has recently changed (5.2.0 and later)
Thanks,
Further to this, I’ve tried the MAC address and I can’t access a cloudkey. When I do into details, it asks for a id/password. The version that it indicates is 5.2.4.3092
Note that when I did the factory reset, the name of the NAS remained the same. Is it possible that the factory reset didn’t take?
BTW, not super computer literate.
thanks,
When you say you cannot access the cloudkey, does that mean you have no cloudkey sticker ?
You can send me a PN with your MAC1 address and I can send you back your cloudkey if you cannot get it any other way.
no, I do not have the cloudkey sticker.
how do I PM you?
I raised your trust level to 1, see if PM’s now show up for you
not for now
raised it to level 2
Pro tip: If you forgot the admin password, disable the admin account from another admin account. Then set a password policy that the current admin password doesn’t meet. Then enable the admin account and it will prompt you for a new admin password. No need to do the 3 second reset. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but I like it! You can change the password policy back while logged in as admin and then change the admin PW to something reasonable.
@Franklin Now there’s a blast from the past. The last time I used that trick was on a DEC PDP-11 !!
Or just write it on a sticky attached to the side ![]()

What NAS model and firmware are we talking about ?
Hi, I am having the same issues. I have a TS230 with firmware version 5.2.8. I did a factory reset but neither admin:admin nor admin:mac-address work for login, and I do not have a sticker on the device with the cloud key (and do not have the original documentation). Could you help me out?
Van you sent me a PM?
If yes, send me your MAC1 address
I don’t think I can
and now?
I am having trouble resetting the admin password on my TVS-682 NAS running firmware version 5.2.8.3359. I’ve done the 3-second reset and tried using the each of the MAC addresses of the four network adapters as the admin password. No luck. Does this feature still work with QTS? Did it ever work? Does anyone have any other suggestions about how to reset the admin password? Oh, and by the way, I lost the password for the user account that has admin privileges, so I can’t login to the machine with an account with admin privileges. Thanks!
