I have a TS-831X and, unlike the other three QNAP NAS systems I have, this device does not offer a controlled shutdown function even though I hold the power button for three or four seconds never holding it long enough to invoke the hard shutdown that corrupts the file system.
I am running QTS 5.2.7.3256 and can find no settings in the firmware that would allow for tailoring of the function of the power button. The TS-1685 on the same firmware version acts appropriately.
Does anyone have any idea why this particular NAS could be acting this way?
Possibly but, if I recall correctly, it’s worked in the past. In any event, the GUI performed as expected. Maybe I’ll generate a support ticket to get the straight “skinny” on it.
Submitting a ticket I did and they thought it may be something with the power button itself of the motherboard.
Come to find out that this particular TS-831X, at least, requires a greater than five second press of the power button to begin the orderly shut down process beginning with a single beep. Holding the button for around 1.5 to 2.0 seconds does nothing.
Hi, have you tried shutting down the unit and then powering it back on using the button? We want to confirm if the button itself is faulty.
If you haven’t tested it yet, no worries—we can continue assisting you via your existing Support ticket. I’m concerned that if the button is broken, you won’t be able to power the unit back on after a shutdown.
Yes I can confirm that this TS-831X powers down after an approximately five second press of the power button and powers back on immediately after another short press of the power button.
