QM2-2P-384 SSD Expansion card: extremely noisy

Hello,

I recently added a QM2-2P-384 Expansion card to my TVS-671 NAS.

The fan regularly jumps up to over7’400 rpm and stays there for hours, without the NAS being under load or the SSD temperatures being higher than when it runs quietly!

It is unbearable for a SOHO NAS which is not stored away in some ventilated closet.

I have searched and found some old Reddit instructions to SSH into the NAS to limit the fan speed, but they are not detailed enough for me to follow successfully.

I am finding out that people have been complaining for years about the poor autofan speed implementation of the add-on cards and the terrible noise they have been suffering, and no implementation / effort seems to have been done on QNAP’s side.

I should have been wary before getting this card, as I bought 2 QNAP 10GB network cards over a year ago and un-installed them because of the noise… waste of money!

I don’t want this latest investment (card +2 SSDs) to go to waste, so can someone please post detailed instructions which were apparently on the previous forum, unless QNAP has an “official” option for the user’s comfort?

Thanks in advance.

Some users have reported increased fan speed on QM2 cards with the current firmware (linked below case is low speed though)

I would open a ticket
