Scope and Impact
According to QNAP’s internal investigation, the issue caused by this update only affected limited models of TS-x53D series and TS-x51 series: HS-453DX, TBS-453DX, TS-251D, TS-253D, TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-453Dmini, TS-451D, TS-451D2. Other NAS models running this version remain unaffected and operate normally.
For affected devices, users can resolve the issue with following options:
Downgrade Update: Users can follow the provided instructions to perform a downgrade.
Contact QNAP Support: Our support team is ready to assist users in resolving issues and ensuring data security and device stability.
This is poor management of this issue. Why would QNAP re-release QTS using the exact same version number and build number as the faulty version? That provides no way for customers to tell if they are running the faulty version or the corrected version.
After each release, the numbers are added by PM. Usually, the same number means the major features are the same.
.2958
This is just a serial number, which will be +1 after each build. You can consider that after introducing the naming rules, it performs a firmware build 2958 times.
build 20241121
The date on which this firmware starts building.
Combined with the serial number, the developers, and the QA team can ensure that the firmware built at same day can be identified by its name.
So by default, it will never generate firmware with the same version numbers systematically.
