Hello, for the past ~3 weeks, at least once a week my server stops responding. I can’t get on and SMB folders, I can’t log into the Web UI, yet I can still get on Plex and play media from the server. The only way I can get it back working is to hold the power button for 2 sec, to make it restart. Any idea whats going on?
Any scheduled tasks like scrubbing active ?
good suggestion… I checked and no scrubbing is scheduled… I guess I better look at the log the next time this happens … edit: just looked at the logs, I dont see anything crazy… just a few of these : Information 2025-04-01 08:42:01 QuFirewall 127.0.0.1 — — QuFirewall Firewall Events [QuFirewall] Reached alert message threshold. Threshold value: 50, Time interval: 2025-04-01 07:42:00 ~ 2025-04-01 08:42:00.
Hey, ok, so it seems like it always happens on Sunday around 11am is there any other schedules that could cause this? Again, plex is working great, I can play media fine. but can’t access the Qnap Web UI, or SMB…
edit: OK now this is interesting… the server was doing the issue… so I unplugged and plugged back in the network cable, and everything started to work again… any ideas?
Is there anything in the crontab for this timeframe ?
I checked it, but don’t see anything strange, I decided to disable the QuFirewall, to see if that’s what is causing it… so far so good, but I need to wait at least a week
Check to make sure something in the router is not causing this. Replugging the network seems like a clue. Can you use a different network port and cable? Can you plug into a different port on the router or switch? I own one of this model it has been rock solid for years. Can you connect 2 of the 4 ports to your switch and try forwarding the port to a different netport and try to SMB to the other port in Windows? You will have to forward the port to the other netport in your router. Also, there is a 5.2.4 firmware. You are troubleshooting a bad port on the NAS, a bad cable, a bad port on your switch/router, or some other router issue. Plex might be coming from a different netport on the NAS.
thanks for the suggestions! I just updated the FW and if this issue happens again, I’ll try the other stuff.
from the FW release notes: - Resolved a rare issue in the kernel-mode SMB daemon that caused the NAS to stop responding for some users.
very interesting!
