Hello, I’m interested in purchasing a QNAP TR-004 4 Bay for my media storage needs that will be used by my Zidoo media player to read files from. I will not use the RAID feature.
I have some questions…
- Does this unit have an option to not put the discs to sleep?
- If I have hard drives that currently have data on them, can I still use them in the QNAP without loss of data? They are formatted as ExFat.
- Is the software compatible with macOS High Sierra or newer?
To use a TR004 as a simple port multiplier is possible, but a waste (there is cheaper enclosures for that)
If you put disks in it, in single (port multiplier) mode, it depends on your host if it can read the filesystem.
Many people complain about the disks going into standby on the TR units, so yes, yes they can go into standby
Regarding your question, device sleep is based on the host’s settings.
Additionally, the TR-004 supports ExFAT format and is compatible with macOS X 10.11 and later. You can find detailed specifications here: TR-004 | 4 Bay USB Type-C Direct Attached Storage with Hardware RAID | QNAP
Thanks!
