Sharing experiences using QNAP products

Due to personal interests and work connections, I have installed and am using one unit each of the enterprise models TS-h1283XU-RP and TS-1683XU-RP in my home’s quiet rack. About a year ago, the TS-h1283XU-RP stopped booting due to a BIOS issue, but I happened to find the latest BIOS that was publicly available, reflashed the ROM, and was able to restore it to working condition. Both units are running with nearly full specs, having expanded NVMe SSD cache and memory modules, and are operating on QuTS hero h5.2.3.3006 build 20250108 (the latest at the time of this post). Since I use them to store and manage important data for both private and work purposes, as well as for media streaming for home IoT devices and running a game server for my children, I am utilizing the following features:

■ Feature 1 (Work Use)
・iSCSI/NFS datastore for VMware vSphere 7.0 virtual environment (VAAI plugin + QNAP VCSA Plugin)
・Storage for test materials (applications and ISO data)

■ Feature 2 (Private Use)
・Personal/family data storage (photos, videos, PC/smartphone backup data, etc.)
・Media server (Multimedia Console + Media Streaming + CAYIN MediaSign + sMedio DTCP MOVE)
・Running virtual Mail server/virtual WSUS server/virtual MineCraft server/virtual Proxy server (Virtualization Station)

■ Feature 3 (Data Protection)
・Daily backup SnapSync (TS-h1283XU-RP ↔ TS-1683XU-RP)
・Monthly backup SnapshotReplica (TS-h1283XU-RP → TS-1683XU-RP)

■ Feature 4 (Remote Environment)
・VPN connection (QVPN - QBelt)
・Remote file operations (Qfile Pro)
・Hardware monitoring (Qmanager)
・Remote monitoring (myQNAPcloud + AMIZcloud + Organization Center)

With tools that cover every need, such as accessing virtual environments and data from remote locations or checking TurboNAS operating status, along with prompt and courteous support, I am able to operate with peace of mind and stability. Being an enterprise model, it offers a stress-free user experience, and my personal recommendation is the compression/deduplication features and backup functions like SnapSync/SnapshotReplica that are unique to QuTS hero. I have used HBS3 Hybrid Backup Sync on previous models like TS-853Pro, TVS-873, and TS-873 with QTS, but I think the best part of QuTS hero is that daily backups via Snapshot finish overwhelmingly faster. It seems the beta version of the HA feature for Virtualization Station is currently under testing, and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the official version to further improve availability. I am also interested in surveillance camera management with QVR and container operations with Container Station, so I plan to continue exploring and making use of various features. As QNAP products are my favorites, I look forward to continued great product development and success from all the QNAP staff.

A rack… at home!? It seems like your electricity bill must be something else, lol.

I’m also looking forward to the HA feature in VirtualizationStation.

By the way, since you mentioned you’re using QuTShero, what kind of compression rate and deduplication rate do you get with the actual files you’re using?
I heard QuTShero works on the TS-264 as well, so I’m a bit interested.

But still, that’s an amazing setup :sparkling_heart:
