[QPKG] Meet 18yo Rtorrent 16 - Faster, smarter, and completely bloat-free.

I think Silas and myself agree. If you are going to be a peer and seed content to others then you have to have ports open. The only exception that I have seen to this (when using the now defunct download station) is that when you are actively downloading, then you may start seeding content during the time your downloads are going on. But once those are done, you are closed off from the rest of the world.

That’s why it is called Peer to Peer. There is no “server” that you connect to.

So to wrap things up here from our discussion yesterday - I have Rtorrent16 working quite well now. It’s a very impressive application. It blows away DownloadStation.

It looks quite complicated initially but the documentation is good and once you get familiar with the interface, it’s pretty easy to work with. I’m sure I wasted too much time yesterday spending most of the day on it, but that’s the fun part about being retired!

That’s great you like it.

We’re still testing Game Agent and Mobile Phone dedicated port for remote connection which is basically something very similar to wireguard, but if you anyone want can check this: https://youtu.be/7WsHZdo35cs (sorry it’s polish language we’re still testing)

Hi, :waving_hand:

I had to release new version urgently - thanks @NA9D for help

Rtorrent 16 — 16.25-09T is published already; 16.25-09U build is on the way by CI workers in Bucket and Code VS so should arrive in hour or two after it’s passed test … or not

Update from App Center as usual. 16.25-09U is the version to expect:

Major updates

[IMPORTANT] Fixed: Rtorrent 16 kept its own files in Public (reported by @NA9D, thank you!)
On a NAS without a share named Download, the package put its own working files in Public/rtorrent16: logs, temporary files, ruTorrent’s per-user settings and the placeholders of magnet links (meta/<HASH>.meta). This happened even when your download folder was somewhere else except all those people who had before first installation Download|Rdownload shares

  • 16.25-09T: magnet placeholders stay inside the package, never on a share.
  • 16.25-09U: the package’s own files get a setting that works exactly like the session folder: Settings > Files & storage > Where the package keeps its files: With the package (default) or A directory I choose. (This is not related to downloaded or completed content)
  • 16.25-09T shows a Data folder row; 16.25-09U replaced quickly with the setting above.

[FEATURE] New: Create torrent
Under the new More (…) button in Quick access and in the Full view.

[FEATURE] New: Move torrents
Select torrents, then More (…) > Move torrents and pick a folder on any volume.

Minor updates

  • 16.25-09U: log rotation for all package logs: a log over 10 MiB or older than 7 days is rotated and compressed; 5 copies are kept.
  • 16.25-09U: one button order on every selection bar: dismiss on the left, the main action on the right, Delete and Trash in red.
  • 16.25-09U: the selection bar slides away while you scroll and comes back a moment after you stop, so the last rows can be tapped.
  • 16.25-09U: Game Agent dry run: click anywhere on a row to select it; Shift selects a range.
  • 16.25-09U: (this is soooo  nice) the phone port now drops addresses fail2tor has already banned, before they reach the log - so mobile app port gets closed for those ip trying to do anything on that port except mobile phones with handshake already configured and stored on the phone security layer chip
  • 16.25-09T: the Phone app page counts failed attempts and addresses correctly
  • 16.25-09T: share links opened from the phone apps use the panel’s own address on your LAN/home network.
