Hi folks. I have a QSW-308-1C switch in which I am unable to remove the installed SFP modules, regardless of the manufacturer, from the switch without having to resort to using a small flat blade screwdriver to coax the modules from the ports. I believe the issue lies with the metal part at the bottom of the ports that have the small triangular shaped cutout designed to retain the modules in the ports. In particular, ports 10 and 11 are of concern because they look “deformed” even though I can’t remove the modules from port 9 either.
Can you tell me if these is a way I can possibly reform the metal parts to make it work properly?
Thank you and I hope the picture upload works.
Probably stupid question, but you do open the port release mechanism (the golden U shaped prong around the port, if you are using 10GbaseT adapters) before you try to pull the modules … right ?
Yes, I do pull the golden tab down before attempting to pull the modules. But do you concur that it looks like ports 10 and 11 are buggered? Maybe the switch I purchased through Amazon was actually a used one someone returned.
Thanks for the response!
Even so, I can’t get them to release from port 9 which doesn’t look deformed. Even fiber modules get hung up.
I have never used that particular switch but other QNAP and nonQNAP switches with SFP+ ports work just fine.
I would open a ticket with QNAP, but it’s probably better to just do a complaint/return with your point of sale.
I opened up a ticket with QNAP as the return window for the point of sale has closed. They, too, have not heard of this issue either so it may be a “one off” problem with this particular switch.
Worst case I can continue to use the switch and keep a screwdriver handy if needed. Thanks for your interest!
I was able to reform the spring part of the ports with a jeweler’s file and small screwdriver and all is well.
Lesson learned: Be careful what you purchase from Amazon. Read the fine print!
