Security Updates

  • Applied multiple security updates to further enhance system security.

Enhancement

Control Panel
  • To optimize storage stability, disk auto recovery is now enabled by default for device models that support this feature. Users can change this setting by going to “Control Panel > System > Hardware > General”.
  • Added two enhancements to IP access protection. To configure these settings, go to ““Control Panel > System > Security > IP Access Protection””.
    • Improved security: IP access protection is now enabled by default for SMB protocols.
    • Greater flexibility: You can now select ““Exclude internal IP addresses”” to ignore failed login attempts from internal IP addresses.
Storage & Snapshots
  • Optimized the performance of mounting snapshots.

Fixed Issues

  • Resolved an issue where after restarting the NAS under certain conditions, QVR Pro would become disabled and could not be started.
  • Resolved an issue where a user group could not be created normally if the “Description” field included certain special characters.
  • Fixed an issue where a manually installed third-party app might connect via HTTP instead of HTTPS as expected.
  • Improved the scroll bar user experience in the “Edit Shared Folder Permission” window in “Control Panel > Privilege > Shared Folders > Shared Folder”.
  • Fixed an issue where the syslog server on the NAS could not receive certain log messages from a third-party syslog generator.
  • Fixed an issue where some users had to manually log in to Qfile Pro for Android and go through 2-step verification every time after closing and then reopening the app.
  • Resolved an issue where some users could not mount an external drive formatted in EXT2.
  • Addressed an issue where some users encountered slow read and write speeds under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue in Storage & Snapshots where the “Snapshot Manager” window could only show two pages of files in a folder that actually contained more files.
  • Resolved an issue in Storage & Snapshots where the volume management window displayed incorrect sizes for shared folders.
  • Fixed a rare issue in iSCSI & Fibre Channel where the username and password fields in “Modify an iSCSI Target > iSCSI Target” might temporarily disappear under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where users could not open Security Center after unlocking an SED secure storage pool or volume.
  • Resolved a rare issue where the NAS might stop responding after the user performed certain actions on a Samba shared folder.
  • Fixed an issue in Storage & Snapshots where after removing a Thunderbolt card from the TVS-1582TU, the NAS diagram on the “Disks/VJBOD” page would display incorrect disk locations.
  • Fixed an issue on the TS-1635AX where some users could not successfully update the firmware.
  • Resolved a rare issue where after enabling SMB access logs, accessing a NAS shared folder via SMB from Windows might take a long time.
  • Fixed an issue where Network & Virtual Switch could not display the up and down speeds of VLAN interfaces on trunk ports.
  • Improved the NFS permissions mechanism.
  • Fixed an issue where a trunk port failover caused the NAS to incorrectly show an iSCSI LUN to be offline and the LUN’s target IQN to change.

Other Changes

App Center
  • Starting from now, to access the beta versions of QNAP applications, please join the QNAP App Beta Program by going to “App Center > Settings > General”.

Source: QTS 5.2.3.3006 build 20250108 | Release Notes | QNAP

It seems like the firmware file for the TS-433 is corrupted. The Zip file from the download center can’t be extracted and the updater within QTS fails as well:
“[Firmware Update] Failed to update system. A flash read/write error occurred. Error code: FW004”

you’d be best to raise this with Tech support by submitting a ticket.

I can confirm that:

https://download.qnap.com/Storage/TS-X33_216G/TS-X33_216G_20250108-5.2.3.3006.zip
https://us1.qnap.com/Storage/TS-X33_216G/TS-X33_216G_20250108-5.2.3.3006.zip

are corrupt, and that:

https://eu1.qnap.com/Storage/TS-X33_216G/TS-X33_216G_20250108-5.2.3.3006.zip

is missing.

@HaruLin could you inform tech support perhaps?

I guess your call for help worked. The update works now.
Thank you

I just saw this now and didn’t do anything

Sometimes it takes some time to copy the files from main server to us1 or eu1, Sometimes it takes some time for the server to copy files from us1 to eu1, so wait a moment and the link should be normal.

Restarted the NAS. Upgraded the firmware from v5.2.2.2950 to v5.2.3.3006 manually via GUI.
The only thing I noticed in the previous version, and in this version as well, is that when the Applications Start bar at the lower right of the screen appears, I cannot expand it by clicking the Up arrow at the end of the bar.

Upgraded my TS-h973ax from v5.2.2.2952 to v5.2.3.3006 and it seems to break the second U.2 slot (S2) but the same slot will still work for SATA drives, so only PCIE/U.2 drives are not detectable on this S2 slot. Downgraded back to v5.2.2.2952 and all seems well, so I can confirm there are bugs in this v5.2.3.3006 FW at least for my TS-h973ax.

I take it you have reported this to QNAP by submitting a Ticket? if not please do.

Yes, done just now after posting my msg.

On our TS-877XU-RP I have a rather interesting case of a very annoying failure. Namely, after updating from QTS 5.2.2.2950 to the latest QTS 5.2.3.3006, a situation occurs in which after restarting, none of the three created volumes mounts. Attempts to recover the volumes fail. The only thing left is to delete the volumes, create them again and restore the data from the backup. There was no such error on QTS 5.2.2. Has anyone encountered something like this on a machine with AMD Ryzen? I would like to mention that I tried to set the device from factory settings on the latest firmware 5.2.3 and after some restart the volume mounting error returns.

It was on one of eight nas upgraded to qts 5.2.1 had a similar issue. the volumes it couldn’t recognize had been from pools safely detached just prior to the upgrade. It was an intel nas (TS-EC1280U-RP). After years of occasional burns caused by new firmwares, once the ability to safely detach pools was introduced, before any firmware upgrade I always ‘safely detach’ all data pools/volumes leaving only the ‘system’ pool/volume residing in the nas to be upgraded.
As with the other NAS’s, upgrade and subsequent reboot went fine. When things looked ‘OK’, replugged data pool HDDs, but when I tried “Attach and recover” apparently it did not recognize my safely detached pool and recovered nothing. Rebooted and tried again; same result. Re-installed firmware, this time thru Qfinder, again successful, but still can’t find my ‘safely detached pool’ with ‘scan and recover’. Put in some new HDD’s and tried to create a new pool and get ‘pool creation failed’. Since my ‘(System)’ volume has only apps to re-install and logs to be lost upon system re-initialization, I re-initialized from scratch at same 5.2.1 level. Afterwards I could create a new pool with the new HDD’s, but I still couldn’t successfully ‘scan and recover’ my ‘safely detached’ data volume pool.

I suspect at that point while 5.2.1 could not successfully ‘scan and recover’ my old data volume pool, I think it recognized that there was possibly valid data on the data pool hdd’s because when I tried to use these HDD’s to create a new pool (understanding I would be destroying content on the ‘safely detached’ data vol pool hdd’s) 5.2.1 said these disks were ineligible for pool creation (even though disks showed as 'Free"). This all leads me to believe that QNAP support could probably assist in making 'Scan and Recover" work or otherwise successfully recover access to that pool safely detached prior to initial 5.2.1 upgrade.

Weighing prior support response times when they need to login remote to fix (>2 weeks to months) vs. restore times (7-10 days ~75TB’s) decided data restore would have additional advantage of exercising disaster recovery plan not tested for past few years (though ‘free’ in gui, had to securely erase data volume pool hdd’s to allow recreation of data vol pool).

Updated my TS-264 and TS-364.
The NAS and all Apps are running correctly.
