I downgraded to 5.2.4.3092 (2025-04-03).
Now NAS says it’s the most up-to-date version.
Very interesting…
After updating my nas TS-832PXU-RP to 5.2.5.3145 i have massive problem with snmp data errors, web access to device. Soft reset via power button dont work either.
Please fix it!!!
I’m curious what the output of the dmesg command is…
Since upgrading we also have the problem that each night, at around 1 AM (1:05, 1:06, 1:08 are our last recorded times) something in the NAS happens and the system services stop working (WebUI, SNMP, SMB). Only SSH is working, but normal reboot is not possible. Just a power kill.
We will try a firmware downgrade to 5.2.4.3092 (currently backing up data in case anything goes wrong).
I had the same thing.
No web interface, only SSH.
Reboot not possible, only kill -9 -1.
On my NAS the dmesg command showed:
[...] Internal error: Oops: 96000007 [#1] SMP
[...] CPU: 2 PID: 10581 Comm: flush_memory.sh Tainted: P O 4.2.8 #2
Now see in crontab:
0 1 * * * /etc/init.d/flush_memory.sh >/dev/null 2>&1
At around 1 AM…?
I’m testing now 5.2.4.3092 (2025-04-03) on TS-832PXU-RP-4G.
Configuration OK, storage pools OK, RAID resyncing OK, SMB OK.
No errors, still working.
For testing purposes we just commented out the flush_memory.sh
script in /etc/config/crontab
yesterday and this morning everything was okay
Unfortunately the cronjob was not commented out anymore this morning . I Found 3 init scripts that put the cronjob back, so we’d have to comment it out at least every day or modify the init scripts (or do a firmware downgrade):
sudo grep -r "flush_memory.sh" /etc/ 2>/dev/null
/etc/init.d/crond.sh: echo "0 1 * * * /etc/init.d/flush_memory.sh >/dev/null 2>&1" >> /etc/config/crontab
/etc/rcK.d/K10crond: echo "0 1 * * * /etc/init.d/flush_memory.sh >/dev/null 2>&1" >> /etc/config/crontab
/etc/rcS.d/S70crond: echo "0 1 * * * /etc/init.d/flush_memory.sh >/dev/null 2>&1" >> /etc/config/crontab
We checked what the flush_memory.sh
script does:
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/compact_memory
It was the same on the problematic system and two other QNAP NAS with 5.2.3 and 5.2.4 firmware.
Then we checked the proc
files on all systems and there is a difference in permissions.
Firmware 5.2.5:
--w------- 1 admin administrators 0 2025-06-12 08:24 /proc/sys/vm/compact_memory
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin administrators 0 2025-06-12 08:24 /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
Firmware 5.2.3/5.2.4:
--w------- 1 admin administrators 0 2025-06-12 09:41 /proc/sys/vm/compact_memory
--w------- 1 admin administrators 0 2025-06-12 09:41 /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
Don’t know if this is the cause, but it’s everything we found so far.
Hello,
I noticed significant performance drop. Network copy speed to NAS reduced by 50% and network hick-ups observed. No performance degradation observed when copying from NAS.
NAS UI becomes unresponsive occasionally, too.
Restoration to previous firmware release restores everything to normal i.e. copy to NAS operates at full speed, no hick-ups and UI performance is good.
I tested QTS Hero on second device with same results.
I have TS-674A with 2 x 1GB NVMe, 2 x 2GB SSD, 4 x 6TB SATA.
Well, I don’t know what this script has to do with it either…
I saw in dmesg every time after the error occurred.
I opened a ticket, described everything and sent the logs downloaded from the Helpdesk application.
They replied that the issue requires more in-depth analysis and forwarded it to the appropriate engineer at QNAP headquarters.
I’m doing another new clean install and configuration on my TS-832PXU-RP with version 5.2.4.3092.
Still working.
Hi - I am seeing a simliar slow down with my TS-673A mounting shares over SMB on a macOS Studio running Sonoma. I’m using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test set to 1G files. I have an NVMe read/write cache. After updating to 5.2.5.3145 my write speed is 18MB/s and read is 189MB/s. I downgraded back to the OS the NAS shipped with, 5.1.9.2954 and my write speed is 226MB/s and read is 270MB/s.
Seems like something really bad happened to the 5.2.5.3145 release.
I think it’s worth opening a ticket with this issue…
After update QTS 5.2.5.3145, my TS-873U-RP having same web login issue
(Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request Reason: Error reading from remote server)
Yesterday rollback firmware to 5.2.4.3092 build 20250403 for fixed
Today checked, 5.2.4.3092 build 20250403 seem removed on official web
( https://download.qnap.com/Storage/TS-X32U/TS-X32U_20250403-5.2.4.3092.zip )
TS-832PXU-RP on QTS 5.2.5.3145 has no issue
None of the problems mentioned here affected my TS-451+.
For my NAS, version 5.2.5.3145 build 20250526 is still avaliable for download.
Sorry for those having problems.
Hi - yes, I opened a ticket (Q-202506-19111) on this yesterday.
Thanks
I did open a ticket right now. Will be reporting back about any information from QNAP.
I received a notification:
In response to your reported issue, we would like to inform you that our Research and Development (R&D) department has identified an issue in the software version you are currently using. Therefore, until a patch is officially released to resolve this issue, we recommend that you temporarily roll back to QTS 5.2.4, which does not have the described issue.
And I don’t see version 5.2.5 for my NAS 832 anymore.
Hm, 5.2.4 is still available… 5.2.5 has been removed.
5.2.5 showing for me still on the NAS itself. Is it best avoiding this one for a little bit?
We downgraded to 5.2.4 again and have no problems anymore now.
So I would say it depends on how important it is for you to have no problems at all - downgrading seems to be no problem at all, but of course requires a reboot again.
Besides: Got an answer from QNAP, but only asking for the log/debug package. As we already downgraded, I asked them if I should send it to them nevertheless, don’t know if it will help analyzing the problem from before the downgrade.
Edit: Here is the answer from QNAP support (translated from German):
Based on your information, I assume your issue arose from the firmware update.
I recommend not updating the firmware.
We are working on a solution for your case using the latest firmware.
If you have no further questions, I would like to close this ticket with your consent.
I have news
I have just received confirmation that the issue has been resolved in version 5.2.6.3167.
I hope it will be available for download soon.
For TS-832PXU-RP it is not there yet.
QNAP support recommends installing the new firmware “not immediately”, but 2-3 weeks after release.
After updating to 5.2.5.3145 with my TS-664 it is no longer possible to mount shares under Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. Klicking on the NAS does not show the share list, using QFinder Pro will result in endless “Please wait”. I created the ticket Q-202506-20631 and am downgrading now.
