Important Notes

* Certain applications, utilities, and mobile features are temporarily unavailable in QuTS hero h5.3.0. For details, see: https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3183
* When the NAS is in a high-availability cluster, certain applications, utilities, and mobile features are temporarily unavailable in QuTS hero h5.3.0. For details, see the following links: https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3187 https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3188
* iSCSI & Fibre Channel does not support downgrading from QuTS hero h5.3.0 or later to QuTS hero h5.2.x or earlier. If you downgrade the firmware, you will have to manually reconfigure all iSCSI targets and LUNs.

Security Updates

* Applied multiple security updates to further enhance system security.

New Features

High Availability Manager

* High Availability Manager is a new application that can help you maximize service uptime by setting up one NAS device as a backup device of another. Whenever failure occurs on one device, the other device can automatically take over and continue providing services. To implement high availability, two NAS devices of the same model are required.

KMIP

* Added support for enabling KMIP (Key Management Interoperability Protocol) service. By configuring a KMIP client and connecting it to a remote key server of your choice, you can securely store and access your encryption keys for various NAS features, such as encrypted shared folders and encrypted LUNs.

Snapshot Manager

* Snapshots now have a "protection policy" attribute that combines the previous feature of permanent snapshots and the property of immutability. When taking or editing a snapshot, or configuring a local snapshot schedule, you can now select a protection policy that prohibits automatic deletion by the system and/or manual deletion by a user. You can also specify the prohibition expiration time.

Storage Manager

* Storage Manager now supports storing encryption keys on a KMIP server, allowing you to easily and securely unlock encrypted shared folders and encrypted LUNs. (Note: You must first configure KMIP service in Control Panel > System > Security > KMIP.)

System
* The status LED on NAS devices can now indicate high-availability (HA) statuses when the devices are in an HA cluster: solid green for the active node role, blinking green for the passive node role, and solid red for HA errors.
* The LCD panel on NAS devices can now display high-availability (HA) information when the devices are in an HA cluster, including cluster name, node role, and cluster IP address.

Enhancement

Control Panel

* Control Panel has been upgraded with a modern UI style, enhancing overall user experience.

iSCSI Manager
* iSCSI Manager now comes with a new UI design and enhanced user experience. We have also added a LUN management page, allowing users to easily manage and monitor LUNs by protocol type and storage space usage.
* IP addresses (instead of network interfaces) are now used for network portal binding for iSCSI targets. This change was made to support high availability, allowing for uninterrupted iSCSI connections after a failover or switchover.
* LUN import and export jobs now support using a remote folder mounted via HybridMount as job destination. For details, see: https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3184
Snapshot Manager
* Starting from QuTS hero h5.3.0, snapshot functions in Storage & Snapshots have moved to Snapshot Manager, with improvements in the UI design and functionality. Snapshot Manager focuses on protecting your datasets, allowing you to easily manage and monitor snapshots as well as local and remote Snapshot Replica jobs.
* Increased flexibility in configuring snapshot schedules.
* Users can now select a different storage pool as destination for a regular snapshot clone.
* When editing a Snapshot Replica job, you can now choose to export vault data.
* The Smart Versioning option for the snapshot retention policy now includes a setting for the number of normal snapshots to retain.
* Improved the wizard UI for creating a Snapshot Replica job.
* You can now use your local NAS as a destination for exporting snapshots.
* You can now configure snapshot access settings and remote Snapshot Replica connection timeout settings in Snapshot Manager > Global Settings.
* Optimized the user interface of the SnapSync job creation wizard. (Note: For now, Snapshot Manager only supports syncing to a remote destination.)
Storage Manager
* Starting from QuTS hero h5.3.0, storage functions in Storage & Snapshots have moved to Storage Manager, with improvements in the UI design and functionality.
* Improved the user experience and UI design of the management windows for storage pools, shared folders, and LUNs, allowing users to easily find related information and functions.
* Added a "Properties" tab in the management windows for storage pools, shared folders, and LUNs, allowing users to check detailed information and the current settings of the storage space.
* Enhanced the user experience and UI design of the disk management page, helping users more efficiently find disk information.
* Enhanced system performance.

Other Changes

SAMBA

* We have moved Microsoft Networking (SMB) service settings from Control Panel to SMB Service. To configure, please go to SMB Service > Network Binding. (The settings were previously located in Control Panel > Network & File Services > Windows/Mac/NFS/WebDAV.)

System

* Starting from QuTS hero h5.3.0, the system no longer creates the "Multimedia" shared folder by default after system initialization. If you need to set up folders for managing multimedia content, please go to Multimedia Console.

Thank you for allowing HA on NAS devices other than enterprise dual controller. However -When will HA Manager be available for more affordable models, such as TS-264-8G/TS-464-8G/TS-664-8G, TS-253E-8G/TS-453E-8G, TS-473A-8G, etc., please?
