New Features

Domain Controller
  • When the NAS is configured as a domain controller, users can now set the domain functional level up to Windows Server 2016.
ACL
  • Introduced ACL 2.0, a new version that optimizes permission storage and inheritance processes to significantly enhance permission configuration and query performance in environments that require large-scale file and shared folder configuration.
Control Panel
  • Administrators can now view and manage QNAP IDs that are linked to user accounts.

  • Administrators can now help users disable passwordless login in case they need to log in with other methods.

  • Added support for configuring SSH encryption settings for network file-sharing connections. Users can select from predefined encryption modes or use a custom mode to specify preferred encryption algorithms.

Desktop & Login
  • This update enhances NAS login security and user experience by adding support for the FIDO2 authentication standard. You can now log in using physical security keys such as YubiKey, or platform authenticators such as Windows Hello and Touch ID. Known as Passkey, this login method can be enabled in Desktop > Login & Security > 2-step Verification or Passwordless Login.
To enable Passkey login, ensure that the system is accessed via HTTPS with a domain name and that FIDO2 Server has been installed.
  • You can now log in to the NAS with your QNAP ID. This allows you to log in without having to remember local account credentials for a more streamlined user experience. Administrators can enable this feature in Control Panel > Security > Login and Password.
High Availability Manager
  • You can now use a virtual switch for the cluster interface, providing greater deployment flexibility in virtualized networking environments. To configure the cluster interface, go to “High Availability Manager > Settings > HA Network”. Note: You cannot use Network & Virtual Switch to configure a virtual switch as a cluster interface.

  • You can now choose to enable or disable automatic failback in “High Availability Manager > Settings > Failover Policy”. Automatic failback allows the system to automatically transfer the active role back to the original active node when it recovers after a failover, system restart, or firmware update.

  • High Availability Manager is a new application that can help you maximize service uptime by setting up one NAS device as a backup device of another. Whenever failure occurs on one device, the other device can automatically take over and continue providing services. To implement high availability, two NAS devices of the same model are required.

iSCSI & Fibre Channel
  • Added support for N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV), a Fibre Channel (FC) technology that allows multiple World Wide Names (WWNs) to share a single physical port. This allows multiple virtual machines or applications to connect to a storage area network (SAN) independently through the same physical host port, improving scalability, resource utilization, and simplifying SAN management. NPIV also allows users to use FC service in high-availability (HA) environments.

  • Fibre Channel (FC) service is now available, allowing computers, servers, other NAS devices, and virtual machines to access NAS storage in the form of LUNs over an FC network. If you want to use FC service in an HA environment, you must enable NPIV service in “iSCSI & Fibre Channel > Protocol Settings > Fibre Channel Service”.

KMIP
  • Added support for enabling KMIP (Key Management Interoperability Protocol) service. By configuring a KMIP client and connecting it to a remote key server of your choice, you can securely store and access your encryption keys for various NAS features, such as encrypted shared folders and encrypted LUNs.
Snapshot Manager
  • Snapshots now have a “protection policy” attribute that combines the previous feature of permanent snapshots and the property of immutability. When taking or editing a snapshot, or configuring a local snapshot schedule, you can now select a protection policy that prohibits automatic deletion by the system and/or manual deletion by a user. You can also specify the prohibition expiration time.
Storage Manager
  • Storage Manager now supports the creation of tiered storage pools to enhance read/write performance and improve storage efficiency. Each tiered pool can include two to three tiers, with faster tiers for storing frequently accessed data and slower tiers for less frequently accessed data.

  • You can now convert an existing regular storage pool into a Qtier hero pool.

System
  • Added support for Secure Boot to strengthen system protection. This feature ensures that your NAS only runs trusted and signed firmware during the boot process, preventing loading unauthorized or malicious code.
Currently this feature is supported on TVS-AIh1688ATX. We will add support for future models and indicate this support on their product pages.
  • You can now set a preferred firmware update time in a reminder message on the desktop for greater flexibility and control.

Enhancement

ACL
  • When configuring shared folder permissions in Control Panel, the system now checks the ACL version and prevents applying settings that exceed the configurable ACL entry limit.

  • After upgrading to ACL 2.0, the system now supports the maximum ACL entry limit from 124 to 1024, thus providing greater flexibility for permission management.

Desktop & Login
  • Improved app update notifications. The App Center icon on the desktop now displays a badge with the number of updatable apps, and opening an updatable app triggers a guided update prompt, ensuring your apps stay current.

  • The Quick Start page has been redesigned and renamed to Feature Tour. This new tour integrates key feature highlights and the latest updates to help you quickly learn about essential NAS features. It appears automatically upon your first login and can be revisited anytime in Desktop > More > Help.

  • You can now enable or disable password login according to your needs. Note that disabling password login can enhance account security, but you will only be able to access applications that support passwordless login, such as web login, Qfile Pro (Android/iOS), Qmanager (Android/iOS), and Qsync Client (Windows/Mac). To configure this setting, go to Desktop > Login & Security > Passwordless Login > Available Verification Methods.

App Center
  • App Center now features a fully redesigned interface for a more modern and intuitive user experience.
High Availability Manager
  • Manual and scheduled SnapSync jobs are now supported in HA environments.

  • SED storage pools are now supported in HA environments. If you create an HA cluster with existing SED pools, you must provide the encryption password for each pool.

  • Encrypted shared folders and LUNs are now supported in HA environments. If you create an HA cluster with existing encrypted storage spaces, you must provide the encryption password for each space.

iSCSI & Fibre Channel
  • You can now use encrypted LUNs in HA environments.

  • Improved FC NPIV status checks and error handling. If NPIV creation fails or connection issues occur, the system now sets the FC port to offline and clearly displays the service status on relevant UI pages.

  • When a storage pool enters an error state, users are now only allowed to unmap LUNs from their targets. All other LUN operations are disabled to ensure system stability.

Network & Virtual Switch
  • Migrated the Network & Virtual Switch web help to Help Center, where users can access more detailed and comprehensive documentation.

  • Network & Virtual Switch now supports customizable MAC addresses, allowing users to assign addresses that align with their network requirements.

  • When replacing a network card in an HA cluster, the new card can now inherit the original network settings of the old card. To further ensure HA stability, users cannot remove external network cards used for the cluster and heartbeat interfaces.

  • When removing a network card, the option to reset the network is no longer provided. To manually reset the network, please go to the menu in the upper-right corner. Note: Resetting the network is not possible when the system is in an HA cluster.

Snapshot Manager
  • Users can now view detailed information about each snapshot by clicking “Snapshot Details” in the snapshot’s action menu (available in both list and timeline views).

  • SnapSync performance test results can now be deleted, allowing users to remove records that are no longer needed.

  • Added an Overview page, providing a summary of the statuses of all snapshots, Snapshot Replica jobs, and SnapSync jobs.

  • A dedicated “Snapshot Replica” page is now available for creating and managing snapshot replication jobs.

  • A dedicated “Snapshot Vault” page is now available for managing snapshot vaults containing replicated snapshots from Snapshot Replica jobs.

  • To streamline the workflow and enhance user experience, Snapshot Replica now provides the “Export Snapshot Image File” option to quickly select shared folders/LUNs and export snapshots.

Storage Manager
  • You can now use encrypted shared folders and SED storage pools in HA environments.

  • Improved the storage pool recovery workflow.

  • Optimized system memory usage to enhance application performance.

  • Added support for attaching and detaching storage pools in HA environments.

  • Adjusted the activation logic for the “Optimize performance” setting during pool creation, allowing the system to skip unnecessary tuning steps to reduce pool creation time.

  • Added a feature tour to guide users on how to use Storage Manager.

  • Improved the Qtier storage pool creation, conversion, and expansion workflows for a more consistent and intuitive setup experience.

System
  • In an HA environment, you can now check the hardware resource allocation of both devices through Control Panel and promptly respond to potential hardware resource issues.

  • Optimized the firmware update interface, making it easier to monitor the firmware update progress.

Control Panel
  • Enhanced and polished version information for firmware downloads in System Logs to facilitate tracking and troubleshooting.
