QuVPN Service 3.3.1522 destroys VPN connections

The TS-531P has a 4 core CPU vs 2 core in your NAS (and a lot more RAM). But, it might work.

I don’t know if the D2 will allow QPKGs from equivalent NAS models to be installed. You would need to try it and see.

Same problem on various TS-231 NAS from various customers… I hope there will be a quick FIX

Is there something specific you need in the newer version or can’t you just roll back?

The idea of reconfiguring dozens of clients doesn’t drive me crazy

Due to some major issues with QVPN version 3.3.1522, the app center has rolled back to QVPN version 3.2.10800. Please manually roll back and check if the issues still exist.

https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/article/how-to-install-qnap-applications-qpkg-files-manually

https://www.qnap.com/en/app-center?os=qts&version=5.2.1~5.2.9&model=ts-231p2

After rolling back, please restart NAS and check if the issue persists.

If you have that many clients accessing the NAS over a VPN, you would likely get better performance and better security using a router based VPN. Just my opinion FWIW (which isn’t much as my opinion and $3.50 will buy you a coffee).

I think this is another story… I’m still waiting for the FIX.. If it doesn’t arrive I’ll be forced to downgrade too… But I trust QNAP…

Not sure where you buy your coffee, but that will get me (ok, almost) TWO coffees

(Tim Hortons Medium $1.83+tax (CDN), or, $1+tax McDonalds. Don’t get me started on Starbucks prices……) LOL

All the roll up cups are gone now .. haha

I love Tim Hortons, but they must be cheaper for you Canuks than the ones here. I don’t think their Mediums are that cheap here (and heck, I would buy coffee all day at $1.83 CDN! ).

Oh Starbucks prices are ridiculous.

Actually, I don’t find it all that great, it’s “OK” in terms of “brewed coffee”. Just convenient for me to walk down the street, and I like the NHL “game” as I often get free coffee for a week if I make good hockey picks (in fact, today was my last day in a free coffee week, so working on the next). I do like McD’s coffee better, and it is arguably cheaper, just a longer walk, and it’s still winter here. Occasionally, I do like a “specialty” coffee and Starbucks does a good job, but only if I’ve got a free gift card from doing surveys, or the birthday bonus or something LOL…

Back on topic so I don’t get kicked…

Would you have to reconfigure the clients? I thought this was an update (/downgrade) at the server side?

Just another piece of the puzzle that is good to have stored locally (Firmware, configuration files (and screen captures), applications) and have manual control over.

Not sure if it is applicable in this case (QuVPN specifically), but isn’t there an option to send a notification when an update is available rather than having the user preauthorize the update? Even as a home user, I like to me in control of ALL updates so I can ensure I have a “way back” if the update causes unforeseen user experiences

It was easy to resolve the issue. You just download an older version of the application and install it manually (about 10 minutes of work). The configuration remains unchanged.

This is the email I received from QNAP

“Due to some major issues with QVPN version 3.3.1522, the app center has rolled back to QVPN version 3.2.10800. Please manually roll back and check if the issues still exist.

The roll back worked for us (private and work VPN)

  • You can simply remove qvpn on the app center.
  • Then install again QVPN, you will no longer see the bugged version but instead it will install the 3.2.10800
  • The configuration was still compatible and had nothing else to do (you don’t need to install the package manually).

Hi, Giuze. Could you please clarify whether the settings are saved or if I need to reconfigure everything in QuVPN?

For us it was saved (using OpenVPN only) and had nothing else to do than remove and install again qvpn.
But I can’t guarantee it would work for everyone.

What kind of testing/quality control is this??? That something very serious like this gets into an auto update! I have clients that are out of town that need access to critical files and my access to manage is also broken. Using Remote Assist on an internal computer worked, but still not a good look for QNAP.

It seems like QNAP could produce a temporary version that is essentially the same as the previous one and push an auto-update rather then forcing people to downgrade on their own.

The issue is very simply resolved. Rollback the update.
