Many cameras now offer SD card slots, allowing short-term recording directly on the camera. Since the footage is stored on the camera itself, you can still view the recordings later even if the network is interrupted.
For these cameras, QVR Server also provides an edge recording recovery mechanism, which is effective in the following scenarios:
- Internal network connection issues cause QVR Server to temporarily lose connection to the camera.
- The QVR server is undergoing a system update or reboot and is temporarily unable to receive recordings.
To achieve the above functions, you must first ensure that the edge recording feature is properly configured:
- The camera has edge recording enabled (recording to SD card) – each manufacturer may have a different method, please refer to your camera’s manual.
- Currently, QVR Server supports recovery via ONVIF Profile G. You need to select the camera as an ONVIF camera, or use the following versions which have started supporting specific brands’ recovery SDKs:
QVR 2.6.x: Dahua, Hikvision
QVR 2.7.x: AXIS - For supported models, make sure to check the edge recording recovery option in the stream settings.
If configured successfully, you will see the protection status in the edge recording recovery feature.
This way, you don’t have to worry about losing footage due to temporary disconnections.
Note: The camera still needs power to record. When testing, if you are using a PoE camera, unplugging the network cable may cut off the camera’s power, making edge recording impossible. You can test by unplugging the NAS network cable, or by pausing the QVR service in the NAS via AppCenter.
