QVR Pro vs. QVR Surveillance

NAS: TS-264 - OS: QTS 5.2.8.3332 - QVR PRO 2.7.4.1407 (07-11-2025)

Hi, there.

I wanted to ask you about the camera recording system I have installed on my NAS.

I’m currently using QVR Pro, but I just saw in the App Center that there’s a new application, QVR Surveillance.

Right now I only have one camera (H.265 3840x2160 ~5.2 Mbps) and I want to add another similar camera in the future.

I’ve searched extensively on the QNAP website and on sites like Reddit, but I don’t understand the difference between these two applications (QVR Pro and QVR Surveillance).

I have to say I’m quite happy with QVR Pro, but if QVR Surveillance offers any advantages over QVR Pro, I’m willing to switch applications.

Thank you very much,
Best regards.

So QVR Surveillance will eventually replace QVR Pro. Sometime in early 2026, QNAP will release a migration tool that will allow migration of your cameras and video to QVR Surveillance. At that point, it will become the “preferred” solution.

There is really no functional difference. QVR Surveillance is possible a little less intensive on the CPU.

The biggest difference is how the video files are stored. In QVR Pro, it creates multiple shared volumes on the NAS and allocates space to those. In QVR Surveillance, the video is stored on a folder in a regular volume on the NAS. So file and space management becomes a little easier.

If you don’t care about losing your video files, you can switch now. Export your camera settings from QVR Pro to a .csv file and then import those into Surveillance. You’ll need to recreate all your event rules as well.

Or wait a month or two for the migration tool.

I’m going to migrate my installation to QVR Surveillance right now
