QVR Related Feature : RTMP Stream Support - Bring More Flexibility to the Surveillance System

In today’s surveillance applications, beyond the commonly used ONVIF and RTSP protocols, QNAP QVR Server also supports RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) streaming—give a greater flexibility to integrate diverse video sources.

Originally designed for live streaming scenarios such as encoders, drones, and mobile cameras, RTMP streams can now be received directly by QVR Server. This allows users to easily incorporate these sources into their monitoring system for real-time viewing and recording.

For example, certain TP-Link cameras can actively push their video streams to the NAS via RTMP. Once configure the stream path and channel on the NAS, the video can be seamlessly sent to QVR Server—without relying on ONVIF compatibility.

What makes this push-based method especially practical is that, as long as the NAS has a fixed address, cameras on dynamic IPs or external networks can still deliver stable streams. This makes RTMP ideal for temporary deployments, outdoor events, or mobile surveillance setups.

Another advantage is that RTMP streams are not dependent on ONVIF compatibility, making it easier to integrate non-standard or third-party video sources.

With QVR Server, the QNAP NAS becomes more than just a storage center—it becomes the central hub for managing and integrating real-time video sources, helping to build a more scalable and flexible surveillance solution.
