In today’s surveillance applications, in addition to commonly used ONVIF and RTSP protocols, QNAP QVR Server also supports RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) streaming, allowing for more flexible integration of diverse video sources.
RTMP, which has been widely used for live streaming, has been utilized with encoders, drones, and mobile cameras. Now, since QVR Server can directly receive RTMP streams, these video feeds can be incorporated into the surveillance system for real-time display and recording.
For example, certain TP-Link cameras can use RTMP to push video streams to a NAS. By configuring the stream path and channel on the NAS, you can smoothly send video to QVR Server without relying on ONVIF compatibility.
A major advantage of this push-based mechanism is that as long as the NAS has a fixed address, the camera can send a stable stream even if it is on a dynamic IP or an external network. This makes it ideal for scenarios such as temporary installations, outdoor events, and mobile surveillance.
By using QVR Server, QNAP NAS becomes more than just storage—it serves as a central platform for unified management and integration of real-time video sources, enabling the construction of more scalable and flexible surveillance solutions.
