RAM Upgrade - Ts-h2477AXU-RP ?

Hi,

I recently bought QNAP TS-h2477AXU-RP NA Sand it comes with 32GB DDR 5
Non-ECC RAM in the box. Seemed like plenty for my usage but ZFS is a bit memory hog so i already within first weeks of real usage got few messages/notifications “running out of RAM, closing some apps…”
I did NOT expect that :/.

So my next idea of course is to add/buy another stick of 32GB RAM.

Now i checked QNAP EU store and they have no memory for sale in that store for months now since i was checking to buy NAS in August 2026 and now end of October still says no RAM at all. Not a single stick so obviously i can’t buy from official store :(.

Next logical step was me trying to check compatible RAM sticks and i see that Kingston have several sticks listed as compatible with exact NAS model listed here:

https://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/model/111831/qnap-nas-servers-ts-h2477axu-rp?status=active&status_2=active

My plan would be to buy this KVR56U46BD8-32 stick but how to be sure will it work together with already included RAM in my NAS ?

I took photo inside my NAS and there is 1 32GB stick of RAM manufacturer i never heard of called “Neo Forza”

Exact RAM is this:
Neo Forza NMUD532F84-4800JA00
DDR5 UDIM 32GB 4800 CL40
1400-115030400100189

So my worry is that “Neo Forza” is 4800MHz CL 40 won’t be compatible with Kingston which is 5600MHz CL 46 ?
Is that a worry reasonable or that Kingston would just down-clock itself to 4800 MHz and all should be fine and my NAS would have 64GB usable ?

Thanks

P.S. I’m open to any other possible more cheaper RAM upgrade to add another 32GB ( (RAM is so expensive nowadays that i can’t just “risk it”). I just can’t find that “Neo Forza” in my country.

First of all, NEVER EVER NEVER EVER buy the QNAP RAM from their website. It is priced at like 2x to 3x of the market. They claim you must use their memory but that is a bunch of marketing BS. I know this because my TS-873A came with Kingston memory installed from the factory!

So Kingston is good. I would be careful with off brand RAM manufacturers. I tried some Timetech RAM that was very cheap (at the time) in my TS-873A when I first got it and I had all sorts of problems. That NAS is now using Corsair memory. I also have used Crucial (sadly - Micron is no longer marketing their product to consumers under the Crucial brand) and Kingston. All work well.

Mind you, if you ever have any kind of problem with your NAS, QNAP will blame it on the memory first before anything. They know not to do this with me any longer. There’s a way to do a memory test on your NAS. There’s a help article on the QNAP website. You basically installl some software onto a thumb drive, pull all the drives from the NAS, boot the NAS, go into the Bios, set the boot drive to the Thumb drive. Insert the thumb drive, reboot and then run the memory test. It will take several hours but at the end you will know if your memory is compatible.

So if that lower cost memory is returnable, then get it and test it out. If it works and passes the memtest then you are all good. Keep a picture of the “PASS” result so if QNAP ever tries to bully you into buying their RAM you can shove this back at them.

Thanks @NA9D

As for memory compatibility that Kingston is specifically on compatible list with my exact NAS (kingston has it’s own compatibility list to pick/check on) so i’m not worried is it compatible.
I’m just worried will it work together with the stick already installed in NAS (due speed difference and since i don’t want to bu 2 sticks due crazy prices in general :)) which is obviously some Chinese manufacturer “Neo Forza” which i’ve never heard of before and i can’t find it in any Europe store to buy same verison so hence me lookign for something else.

As for RAM prices with Qnap sticker i get you, same thing is Snyology doing with addition they are doing it for SSDs and HDDs now so not just RAM :D.

So here’s the thing - the RAM clock speeds do need to match but that depends on the clock speed of your NAS. So as long as each stick matches at least the clock speed of your NAS, you should be fine. Theoretically they should both be the same type that is compatible. But if you have RAM that can operate at a clock speed beyond where your NAS operates and your new stick operates at what your NAS operates at, you should be fine. Again, make sure you can return it. Test it and then validate.

Yeah , installed RAM is 4800MHz and Kingston is 5600MHz so in theory Kingston should be able to downclock itself to match slower speed of that “Neo Forza” but as you say all that is in theory :).

Sadly i don’t have easy option to return RAM back since store where i can order stick don’t have it in stock (and they are small WEB shop/re seller) so they also need to order from their main supplier and that would complicate possible return :(.

I’ll check what they say considering current prices are skyrocketed and if I return it back they might be able to sell it for even more money in few months so they might be “open to that” idea in these new times :).

Thanks

Ram runs at the speed the motherboard tells it. That is how gamers change ram speed all the time. The motherboard will run all ram at the lowest speed available (in your case 4800MHz). Most of my NAS’s have original slower ram and added faster ram.

Hi @Lewis,

Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize that memory modules have not been available in our EU store.

We are currently checking stock of the memory module for the TS-h2477AXU-RP and will do our best to arrange supply. If it becomes available, we will share a purchase link here.

Thank you for your patience and for choosing QNAP.
