Fan failed, I need a new one, and I don’t want to RMA the card. Dispite the fan failing, the NVME drives are staying a cool 48c, most likely due to the other fans in the NAS I have.
Anywho, I have figured out it is a 4 wire 26mm 12v fan.
Thank you very much for your support of our products!
Regarding your inquiry about the fan, I will verify the detailed specifications with our internal team and provide further assistance as soon as I have the information. Thank you for your patience!
As lightning always strikes twice, due to a hard-drive failure, I decided to turn off the nas either way, so I removed the card and the fan. The fan was turning with a lot of resistance, so it was definitively a bearing failure Harddrive was less than two years old Thankfully I had a new 18TB replacement drive ready, but takes 30 or so hours to rebuild the raid either way…
I peeled the label back and added a drop of oil in the bearing, and I got it spinning more smoothly but the fan is shot.
I was hoping it would get it working until the new fan arrived. The only replacement fans off aliexpress or amazon seems to be fake replica fans. OR they are rated at 0.20a not 0.25a
Well, that was a bust.. I was sent a fake/counterfeit fan.. It was “all wrong“ Name to start off, was Power Looyc and not Power Logic… lol the rest was just tragic.. I just stuck a nvidia gpu fan in there to stop the fan failure messages…
that is crazy to get a counterfeit fan. We need Qnap to provide an option to purchase replacement fans. That such an easy replacement item the end user can do it.
The NVME temps never get above about 45c even with the fan dead. I mean, since the nas hardware limits the speed to pci express 2x4 lanes aka 2 GB’sec it’s never going to get particularly warm anyways. Even if the card where to run at it’s full rated speeds, I doubt this would ever overheat under normal conditions. The NVME drives can do 7000 MB’sec at full speed, so this is running at about a third their normal speeds.
the fans on the network cards and expansion cards also tend to go. I had to replace them on both my dual 10GB nic and storage expansion card that comes with a TL-D1600S unit.
If you can get fans on the website for sale please include those as well.
The fan on the dual 10GbE in my h1288X sounds like a table saw(bearings are shot I guess), need to swap that card for a single port 10GbE one (I only use one port anyways and I have a bunch of the QNAP cards sitting around)
mine was like that so that is why i got a replacement that was close enough on aliexpress. It also starting to make noise but its been a year already. I think next time i service the machine ill pop off the fan and replace it with one of the extra ones i ordered.
I would prefer these cards come with standard fans that you can just order from anywhere. but if qnap ends up offering replacements, i would just order those.
