Samba update for old TS-459 Pro II

OK, bear with me - I’m still running a TS-459 Pro II which has an Intel Atom processor. I’m on the last firmware update and the latest Samba server installed is 4.0.25. Has anyone managed to update Samba server in this situation? any source of precompiled packages? Entware only goes up to samba36 for my architecture (x86_64). I started a compile but it started to get a bit complicated so I thought I’d ask around first.

I’m putting off the inevitable but it’s still working well, except for one or two weird things when copying files in Windows File Explorer, which I believe were caused when Microsoft tightened SMB security a bit a few years ago.

I doubt there is any package for samba for your NAS which is about 14 years old. it was EoL support by qnap 5 years ago.

Try and see if you can boot with Truenas via USB if you want to carry on with this NAS.

Yeah, that’s an option. I started compiling a newer Samba but then got into dependency hell with newer versions of GnuTLS needed (newer than the one in the Entware repository), then libnettle, and then I thought that could just go on and on, so I gave up! I think it’s time for a new NAS, and I’ll probably keep the TS-459 for backups. It’s a dependable old workhorse.
