Seagate SkyHawk AI (2024), 24TB (ST24000VE002) on QNAP TS-253E

I am using the QNAP TS-253E as dedicated surveillance NAS. The 24TB version of the 2024 Seagte SkyHawk series has not been acknowledged yet as being compatible. I requested for it. I have two questions:

  1. How long does it take to have the compatibility tested by QNAP?
  2. Has anybody already used this drive on the QNAP TS-253E?

Best to open a ticket. I would use a pair (or more) of NAS disk in a NAS. If you had a dedicated NVR then you can use these disks.

I already opened a ticket couple of weeks ago. Never got an email for confirmation. Just re-entered the ticket. Again, no confirmation mail.

I may go for the Exos X24 instead, which is on the compability list and is also suited for surveillance storage.

I use approved Exos drives for surveillance. They are better drives and easily go 5 years of 24/7. Also, generally cheaper than Skyhawk.

Be carefull with exos drives right now

Franklin, dolbyman. Thanks for you feedback!
I went for the Seagate Exos. The X24 (24Tb) which are newer and have less (no?) known fraude cases. The price difference (cheaper) was there but not shocking.

The guarantee check worked out fine. Printed production data was 2025-03.

Unfortunately QNAP did not react anymore on the 24Tb SkyHawk. Maybe they are working on it.

I am fairly confident my (#2) X24 drives are new, not used. Still I would like to run a tool like Smartmon since apparantly SMART values can be tampered with. I did not find any app in the QNAP appstore. Nor any resource how to install/run Smartmon.
