Second NVMe in TVS-h674, can't create RAID 1?

Hi all,

I received my TVS-h674 to set it up as a new NAS. I have installed a NVMe in slot 1, and configured the NAS. So far, so good. Today I received my second NVMe with the intention to use that as a RAID 1 mirror. However, when I go into the Storage Pool I see that the first drive is RAID 0 and there doesn’t seem to be an option to migrate this to RAID 1. If I try to initiate a new storage pool on the emtpy NVME, RAID 0 is my only option (I don’t see an option for non-RAID, or so-called single drive).

From the reading I have been doing it seems that you cannot convert RAID 0 to RAID 1. But when I setup my NVMe, I assume it would be setup as a single drive all along?

What are my options? I really don’t want to have to wipe everything out and start over. If I need to do so, what backup/restore option is best?

I’m frustrated because if I would have know this, I would have waited with configuring my QNAP until the second NVMe arrived.

If you had used QTS, it would be no problem, but QuTS sets single disks up as ‘RAID0’, so there is no way forward for you but to start rom scratch. QNAP should add this info into the manual (as it’s such a stark difference from QTS)

I won’t shoot the messenger, so thank you for your reply.

If I do the QNAP Control Panel backup/restore - will I lose anything?

The Backup restore also contains the disk config, so that is ill advised.

But as all disks contain the OS, you can just pull the NVMe (switched off of course) but the system and settings will stay intact on the spinning disks,.
Clear the NVMe and insert both cleared NVMe disks into the QNAP, all user settings will stay intact but the apps
Now you can setup your RAID1, promote this to system pool and reinstall all apps… then you should be done
