Shared Folder without Constant Password Prompting

Windows 11 and a Qnap-TS233

I have a shared folder called Recordings on Qnap which constantly asks for a password.

To resolve this I have tried about everything including below.
**Disabled restrict anonymous users from access SMB shared folders.
****Enabled Full Access for Guess Right.
****Windows 11 All networks turned off Password protected sharing.
****Added everyone to this shared folder with Read/Write permissions.
****File services for MS (SMB) networking was enabled.
****Service Discovery Enable UPnP Discovery Service is enabled.

Just clicking on Qnap under Network brings up the credential requirement. I can’t even see the shared folder underneath until I enter my credentials used to login into the Qnap server.

My UnRaid server does not have this issue so I do not know what else to try.

  • Mount the folder with a password via net use
  • Add your Windows user account to the NAS and never get a prompt again (for folders with the Windows user premission added)

That indeed works. But, I would like my guests to be able to use the share without me having to create a Windows user account on their devices.

I would have thought the Guest or Everyone account would have handled that need.

Didn’t MS disable guest logins from Win11 a while back?

Another good reason not to move to Win11 !!!

LOL. That’s why as IT manager I had to upgrade over 2,500 workstations to Windows 11, but didn’t do mine until the last week for it’s EOF. And then setup a VM for Windows 10.

Appreciate that catch. I didn’t see that change. Explains a lot.
