Shared folders and other issues

Hi,
I have removed a shared folder from ControlPanel>Privilage>SharedFolders (Selected folder I don’t want to see and clicked Remove button)
In a dialog that followed I did not tick the “Also remove the data” option.

And even though folder is not showing in shared folders, or in File Station (tried both 5 and 6) it is still showing in Windows File Explorer (I can only access QNAP by navigating to its local IP address - this is another issue I’ll open another thread if this can’t be resolved here, I’m mentioning it in case it is relevant)

One of the folders (Public) keeps reappearing in Windows even after I’ve selected "Hide Network Drive in the Properties of Shared folder - worked for other folders.

Another Folder “Home” Dos not show in Shared folders but shown in Windows, I don’t want to see it in Windows and can’t figure out how to make it hidden.

So I have four questions

  1. How to make “Public” folder permanently removed from folders visible in windows file explorer.

  2. How to find and remove folder that no longer exists in Shared folders (folder qnap visible in file explorer) but “Also remove data” option has not been selected during the folder removal from shared folders

  3. How to Make folder Home not show up in Windows - it does not show in Shared folders

  4. How to make NAS accessible by clicking on icon in Network in Explorer in Windows11

You cannot remove the default folders…only thing I guess would be to enable ABSE and remove rights from the SMB connecting user (so the shares will not be displayed)

Also please upload screenshots to this fforum (don’t hotlink)

Why not utilize these folders instead of trying to hide them?

“Home” is your home folder on your NAS. It’s really a place for YOUR stuff that is not accessible by someone else.

“Public” is designed for things that are for multiple people to see.

I get it though - you don’t have a need for either of those. My advice - just ignore them.

I don’t want to physically remove home or public. I want to hide those in windows.
One of them does not show in shared folders at all. The other keeps ignoring the setting of hiding it in windows.

One folder that I want to remove completely from my nas is “qnap” folder. this is a folder I’ve created and I removed it from shared folders but forgot to tick the “also delete files” and I’m asking where those are on qnap so I can find it and delete it manually

Yes.
I know what I want to achieve. I’m looking for solution not preaching.

So did you try ABSE? I did not see any reply regarding that

Here’s some information regarding the four questions you raised:

  1. “Public” Shared Folder: “Public” is a system-built-in shared folder and cannot be completely removed. However, you can hide it from Windows File Explorer by checking “Hide network drive” in its “Edit Properties.” You can also refer to the official explanation here: How can I remove the default shared folders on my NAS?
  2. Data After Shared Folder Removal: If you didn’t check “Delete data simultaneously” when removing a shared folder, the data will still remain on your NAS. You can access it by creating a new shared folder and selecting “Manually enter path” to locate it, then manually delete the data. For more details, please refer to: My Shared Folder was removed but data is still there. How to access the data?
  3. “Home” Folder Visibility: The “Home” folder appears when the “User Home Directory” feature is enabled. If you prefer not to see it in Windows, you can hide it by enabling “Hide network drive” in the properties of the “homes” folder.
  4. Windows File Explorer Connection Issues: If your NAS connection is abnormal via Windows File Explorer, we recommend first ensuring that the WS-Discovery function is enabled. You should also check your configured SMB version and network discovery settings. We’ve actually tested the hide and connect functions. If you continue to experience issues after your operations, we suggest contacting our technical support team for further troubleshooting.

Thank you.
It helped with everything apart from the last point. I’ve tried few things in windows unsuccessfully. I might have to open the ticket but this is for the future as I managed to map all folders I’m using as network drives.

Only 3 of my 7 NAS’s have a homes folder, the newest ones. IIRC you used to be able to delete it?
