SMB works only briefly after reboot.

Operating System: Windows 10

NAS Model: TS-869L

Firmware Version: 4.3.4.2814 (No updates available)

Network Setup: Single Port

I am able to access NAS shares through SMB for only a short time after NAS reboot (15-30 mins) - the shares then become unavailable. The problem affects all shares.

The data remains accessible through the HTTP interface.

I can access SMB shares on two other QNAP NAS from the same Windows 10 PC.

Any thoughts please?

Thank you!

Any funky firewall or access control settings active?(disable any firewall on the NAS to test)

Thanks for the reply - firewall has been disabled for the purposes of testing. As I mentioned, I can connect initially and access files, but it then just gives up.

When it stops working, can you still access the NAS via SSH and check the SMB status?

Yes… it returns:

smbd Version 4.0.25

smbd is running.

max protocol SMB 2.1 enabled.

hmm, ok it’s not the SMB service then.

Have you tried to reapply the current firmware ?

No… but I first found the problem on older firmware (not sure what version), so the first thing I did was an update which has not helped.

I am not 100% sure SMB works after every restart. When tested today, it worked after a restart after the NAS has been switched off for a month. I have just restarted the NAS again and SMB is not working this time.

I have a hunch its a hardware problem….

SMB is pure software (If you think it could be a hardware issue, did you check the dmesg log?) , so it could be a script running somehow messing with settings maybe ? What apps are installed?

Have you tried the other LAN port in your NAS just to rule that out? (configuration and / or hardware)

yes - I am unable to connect on either network card.

Regarding the SMB-related issue you’ve encountered, please open a support ticket via our Service Portal and provide the SMB Logs within the ticket.

Thank you for your cooperation!
