Tiering issues and more

I upgraded my TS-h686 from QTS.

NVME 2T x2 (RAID0) 1st-tier
SATASSD 4T x3 (RAID5) 2nd-tier
SATAHHD 10T x3 (RAID5) 3rd-tier
RAM 32GB
I was operating with Qtier.

I backed up the data to a USB HDD, set up tiering on QuTS in the same way as QTS, and restored from the backup, but I encountered some issues.
The shared folder I created was set to write directly to the 3rd-tier.

When restoring via HBS3 sync, data was preferentially written to the 1st-tier,
and it wouldn’t write to the 2nd/3rd-tier, making the system very unstable.

The process stopped when the 1st-tier was nearly full, and by manually forcing tiering, the data moved to the lower tiers,
and after repeating this several times, I was finally able to restore.
The same issue occurred when moving/copying across shared folders in Filestation.

I also encountered several other problems:

  • The HDD used for backup was treated as a shared folder, and even after removal, it remained as a ghost.

Deleting the relevant shared folder information from /etc/config/smb.conf and rebooting made it disappear.

It’s still quite buggy.

Did you upgrade QTS to QuTS Hero 6 beta? Tiering is new to Hero and as the product is still in beta, you may be encountering some bugs.

Additionally, the way shared folders work in Hero is completely different from the way they work in QTS.

We are currently analyzing this issue. We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you!
