Touch gesture misrecognition on tablets significantly affects QuMagie usability

I have been using QuMagie for more than a year. The most serious usability issue lies in its touch gesture handling. The app relies on left and right swipe gestures to switch to the previous or next image. But when swiping relatively fast, this gesture is very frequently misinterpreted. A horizontal swipe is often detected as a double-tap zoom, or mistakenly recognized as a vertical swipe. Since the system assigns “swipe up” to display photo details, this results in unintended UI transitions and severely disrupts the browsing experience.

This problem is particularly noticeable on tablet devices, where larger screens and faster gesture movements make gesture misrecognition even more frequent. As a result, basic image browsing becomes unreliable and frustrating.

I would strongly recommend rethinking the gesture design. For example:

• Disable swipe gestures for image switching, and instead use tap-based navigation (tap left half of the image for previous, right half for next).
• Remove “swipe up to show photo details” and disable double-tap zoom.
• Use two-finger pinch gestures exclusively for zooming.

Alternatively, allowing users to customize gesture mappings would be an even better solution, letting them decide which gestures trigger which actions.

In its current state, the gesture system feels overloaded and error-prone. Improving gesture clarity, reducing conflicts, or introducing user-defined controls would significantly enhance the overall browsing experience.
