Tr004 firmware update fails!

No chance to update tr004.
Firmware installed - tr004 savely removed - tr004 restarted - same message that update to FW 1.2 is still open.

Please help

I have seen this a couple of times recently, when the TR is connected to a NAS, have you tried connecting it to a PC/MAC for the update ?

Not yet but I will try.

Q: Will there be a problem with access to already mounted hard disks?
Q: Will I loose data when connecting the tr to a PC?

In What mode is the TR? , storage pool or external storage ?

If it’s in external storage mode, just hook it up to Windows/Mac, if it’s in storage pool mode, either shut down the NAS or disconnect the pool first (see manual), then connect it to Windows/Mac

It‘s in external storage mode. So obviously no problem. Thanks for clarification. I‘ll try to update tomorrow and let you know if it worked.

Hi,
Conneted the TR004 to a Windows-11 PC. Installed Firmware showed 1.2. Ran the update process on the PC but no change. Seems that the current firmware still is running on the TR.
After re-connecting the TR004 to my TS431 it shows that a new firmware 1.2 is available. No Version is shown for the installed Firmware. Weird

I‘ll ignore the update message until a new firmware version will be mentioned in the update section.

I have the same issue.

I am having the same issue. Shows 1.2 but it won’t update. Has anybody opened a ticket with QNAP?

Admins(?): This shouldn’t be marked as “solved”.

Ignoring the firmware update message isn’t “solving” the problem.

<tl;dr>
Contact QNAP Support & they’ll “magically” fix it via Remote Help Session.
</tl;dr>

EDIT:
Merged my previous post here.

Had the same issue.
TR-004 in Software Control mode.
Static Single Volume storage pool for a TS-453bT3 NAS.
Current TR-004 FW version is 1.2.0.
NAS continually reports a firmware update (to v1.2.0) is available.
Have attempted the update multiple times with no effect.
Finally just clicked “don’t notify me” to get past the annoying messages.

Did.

UPDATE:
QNAP requested remote access and (promptly!) told me the issue is “fixed”, however they didn’t provide any more details about what the problem was nor how it was fixed.

I don’t necessarily doubt them, but it’s difficult to know if it was fixed or is simply still just “hidden” by selecting “Don’t notify me about this again.”

In a follow-up, I asked them how:
a) to confirm it’s fixed, not simply hidden, and,
b) how anyone else (here in the forum) could fix it or check if it’s been fixed.

Whether it’s a language barrier issue, or reluctance to get into the details, their response didn’t address those questions in any way.

Their response was: “If there are further problems, contact QNAP Support.”

I anyone is still facing the issue and is inclined to test some things, the following occur to me:

FOR FURTHER TESTING #1:
As I recall, (but I’m not 100% sure), viewing the TR-004 from the NAS ➛ Storage and Snapshots ➛ Disks/VJBOD ➛ TR-004 Enclosure, previously showed no/blank for the firmware version of the TR-004.

In fact, I think I recall that almost all the information about the TR-004 was blank in that location.

If you are still in the state of perpetual notification, or have just dismissed the message, you may want to check if that is true on your system - are most of the TR-004 details (F/W, Serial, etc) blank on your system?

If they are blank, that could be an flag for this bug’s status.

Caveat:
My TR-004 is connected to the NAS as a single static volume storage pool - I don’t recall how it looked in that UI location when I had it configured as DAS.

FOR FURTHER TESTING #2
Thinking back, I think I recall that checking the External Enclosure for firmware update from within the NAS UI (NAS ➛ Storage and Snapshots ➛ External Storage Devices ➛ External Storage Device Management ➛ Check for Update) would re-trigger the notification cycle again (before the QNAP Support fix). (It now no longer does on my NAS.)

Someone curious and still facing the issue could test on their system.

Maybe this helps someone else facing this in the future

I am still facing this issue on a brand new enclosure. No firmware version shown at all in the QTS UI. I tried to install 1.2.0 through the web UI but the firmware update notification keeps coming back. Also, I still do not see a version. I then tried to use the desktop application with the same result: no version shown and the update does not seem to go through or register. Also tried installing 1.1.1 but this resulted in a Update error message, so I assume that this is the currently installed version or an internal version in between 1.1.1 and 1.2.0.

Any tips on how to resolve this before I will be contacting QNAP support?

TL;DR: No. Contact support.

First, thanks for confirming my suspicions about the version numbers showing/not showing as a “flag” (likely) indicating this particular bug.
My guess (assumption) is that the 1.2.0 is actually correctly installed, but not reporting itself (it’s version) back to the NAS correctly.

For my curiosity, (and the benefit of future readers), are the other details, like serial number, etc., of the enclosure populated or also blank? (As the version number is?)

But to address your question: no way (that I’m aware of) to solve this yourself.
Contact support, and they’ll remote in and quickly fix it.
When I went through it, I asked them if it was something I could fix myself (without involving them) they didn’t respond to that specific question.

If you’re so inclined and have the appropriate level of knowledge, you may want to consider asking support the question again/too.

FWIW, and you could also consider:
I wish I’d taken before & after screenshots of the NAS interface pages of the enclosure to be able to definitively compare the details that changed.

Hello all, For future reference I contacted QNAP support and received a solution that successfully resolved my issue. Below is the fix for anyone experiencing this known QNAP bug. Apply these commands via SSH as an admin user:

wget https://download.qnap.com/Liveupdate/RAIDManager.xml
/etc/init.d/gen_ext_dev_version_conf.sh RAIDManager.xml /etc/config/tr_version.conf
hal_app --se_scan > /dev/null

I’m also having this problem. Is this something QNAP plans on fixing anytime soon? Very disappointed that this known bug hasn’t been fixed already even though there have been NAS firmware updates issued since this bug was reported.

I submitted a support request through the NAS helpdesk.

Did you try to update via the above SSH command ?
