TS-133 and WD260KFGX 26TB disks

Hello,

Are there any known issues regarding the Western Digital Red Plus WD260KFGX 26 TB disk when used in a QNAP TS-133 one-bay NAS?

We had one running for 56 days without issues until the NAS suddenly claims “Er is minimaal een onherstelbare lees-/schrijffout gedetecteerd. Overweeg om de schijf te vervangen.“ (There is at minimum one unrecoverable I/O error). The drive is now in read-only mode.

When checking the drive itself, there are no S.M.A.R.T. errors. A full test from the NAS itself shows no errors. We sent the drive back to our supplier and they also couldn’t find anything wrong and suggest the NAS is the problem.

Is the NAS the problem here, is the TS-133 incompatible with this specific disk?

Incompatible drives would not cause random drive fault detections, my guess a random error, but without any SMART info unclear if it was the disk or even controller issue

I will post all S.M.A.R.T. info when the drive is returned.

I would like to ask if your vendor will be replacing the hard drive with a new one given its current condition.

Based on our experience, not all hard drive issues or anomalies can be accurately reflected through SMART attributes alone. If you are still experiencing issues with the drive’s operation, we recommend opening a support ticket so our technical team can assist you.

Thanks!
