I’m getting very low read/write performance. My configuration:
1GbE
RAID1
WD8003FFBX
NFS
I’m getting about 35-40 MB/s… which is low.

What is RAN1?
These low end ARM devices should fill 1GbE speeds. Are you reaching these speeds transferring a large file or tons of little files? You only have one disk in there or several (RAID?)
RAID1, sorry about the typo. Two disks. One large file.
Many small files or a large file ?
one large file
What system is the endpoint ? (does it have fast storage ?)
Have you tried network speed benchmarks ? (e.g. blackmagic or atto)
Macbook Pro (M3), SSD of course. I am using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test.
hmm … what does the disk read test say on the NAS ?
What’s “disk read test”? hdparm -t kinda fluctuates between 80MB/s and 250MB/s. Actually, this is a between weird: for /dev/sdb its consistent at 250MB/s but /dev/sda is far less consistent and much slower…
Found it under Storage & Snapshots, for both disks it shows 230MB/s
Right. It shows about 230 MB/s
hmm … NFS also does not have too many options that could slow the transfer down (SMB has signing/encryption, etc)
Have you tried SMB for comparison ?
What NFS versions do you have active ?
Yeah, SMB on that MacBook Pro gives similar speeds.
But… I just tried Raspberry Pi and it went up to 100MB/s!!! What the heck might be wrong with my MacBook Pro and QNAP compatibility?
I don’t have/use any apple products… no idea, sorry
Sometimes, if you use two hard drives with different speeds, the slower one can make the faster one go slower too.
Do you think this might be happening with your setup?
If transfer speeds to the RasPi are OK, the NAS would not be the issue though
Hi @MoshePupkin
Could you please share some details about your hard drives?
Were they purchased at the same time, and how long have they been in use? Also, just to confirm from our previous discussions, are all of them WD8003FFBX drives?
Thanks for helping us understand your setup better!
Is it possible that your Mac is connecting through Wi-Fi?
