Hello everyone,
To improve Plex, I tried installing an NVIDIA T400 on the PCIe X8 port. But QTS doesn’t see it. Even with a PCIe X16 to PCIe X8 adapter, QTS 5 still doesn’t see the Nvidia.
It’s not a hardware issue, but QNAP has restricted graphics card recognition. If I boot the TRS-462 with ZimaOS from a USB drive, the system instantly finds the T400. The same goes for Plex on ZimaOS, which immediately finds the Nvidia T400.
If I remove the USB drive and reboot on QTS, it finds nothing.
Why restrict the QTS system on this model since the PCIe port is fully compatible?
Does anyone have a tip for teaching QTS 5 how to recognize a graphics card on this TS-462?
I know I should have thanked you much sooner, but I’ve been working so hard after your replies to find other solutions that I forgot the most basic courtesy. So, thank you!
(And indeed, it’s impossible to install the Nvidia drivers on this device.)
So here’s the other thing. Just because you install a Graphics card, it does not mean that your Plex content will show on that graphics card. The output of a GPU on a QNAP is exceptionally limited…
I’m not sure if Plex takes advantage of hardware acceleration on QNAP with a GPU installed. Someone else will have to comment on that.
On GPU compatible systems (with a compatible GPU) it should show up in the Plex transcoder settings. At least on native installs, on container installs you need to add the GPU via compose to the container.
