[TS-470] (TS-x70/TS-670/TS-870) - Request stock OEM BIOS rom/bin (ca. 2013)

Does anyone have, or could someone retrieve the stock OEM bios for the TS-470 (MB rev. 1.4… not 2)

I have upgraded to an i7-3770T, 16GB RAM, and have been experimenting with installing TrueNAS Scale via chainloading off of the DOM into a USB3 mSATA drive. I’ve also set up a pcie>mSATA host to boot off of the same mSATA drive using the internal mini-pcie slot.

All of this seems to work fine for the most part.

The last step was to install a GPU: I have an NVIDIA t1000 that I swear to god worked just fine on the factory default OEM bios, but after flashing QC30AR23, I can’t get it to work despite weeks of screwing around with different PCIE, PEG, ASPM, etc…

I got a ch341a and have been modding the bios in FIT and AMIBCP, which is cool but hasn’t fixed anything.

Shame on me for not backing up, first.

As said on reddit, best would be to open a ticket (this here is a community forum and not a ticket)

edit I guess I actually never hit send on that reddit post

thanks! I did open a support ticket as well! I’ve heard they are stingy with giving out the bios, so I didn’t have much hope in that succeeding.

support request denied, as expected.

IF ANYONE HAS A STOCK QNAP TS-470, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I’m willing to send some $ digitally, if that helps.

Not sure this will help, but I’ve long suspected that QNAP include BIOS updates in the QTS firmware images. You might try downloading an older TS-470 firmware, then unpack it and locate the BIOS update files. QTS 4.3.6.2050 from July 2022 is available on the QNAP download site: Download Center | QNAP (AU)

I was poking around at this and didn’t come up with anything. I was also looking at the OEM DOM fs (extracted QTS?), and couldn’t find anything.

Is there a guide on this stuff anywhere?

Hi mate, I saw this SE page years ago that might help (took me a while to track it down again): https://reverseengineering.stackexchange.com/a/2714

Looking at it a little closer, there are references to the BIOS in the image.

This was on a very old firmware version though. I don’t know if QNAP have modified the image layout since. Try it and see.

BTW: here’s a link to the full recovery image for the TS-470: https://download.qnap.com/Storage/tsd/fullimage/F_TS-470_20140519-1.2.8.img
