Dear members,
I have a TS-473 which is in need of a firmware. The bom firmware is corrupt and I am having trouble finding the right firmware for fixing.
Anybody out there who can help me? I am most appreciated.
Best regards,

One of the units that cannot be recovered, best to open a ticket
Thank you for your reply.
I was aware of the fact that QNAP claims that this one cannot be recovered but that is not true. The reason they say this is probably because there is no display out on the device itself. However, you can simply put in a gpu to solve that problem. Also, the firmware has been online for a period of time. I am afraid that if I make a ticket I have to send the whole unit to QNAP for repair while this is not needed in my personal opinion.
I merely hope that someone has this firmware and who is willing to share it with me.
Problem is, QNAP does not provide the base image, to flash on the DOM. So unless somebody has this exact unit and can make a dd copy of the DOM, you might be limited to QNAPs support.
I am aware of that. Even tho I have no idea why. I just have my hopes up that someone who has the same unit can provide me with this image. I know on the old forums it was provided but I am not able to send any messages there since it is down.
It’s the German QNAP forum, but this user here has a DOM image but it’s too large to upload it to the German download area, you could try messaging him
I shall message him and see if he is able to help me. That would be great.
Thanks for your help in this matter. I will reply once if the problem has been solved.
Thanks again.
Could you please tell us what issue you’ve encountered that requires a firmware recovery? This will help us understand your situation better.
The problem I encounter with the NAS is that when you boot it, it is reachable, sometimes long enough for you to be able to install a new drive. After a very short period of time the connection is lost and makes the NAS unreachable. Most of the times a reboot is not working. You have to do a hard reset and start from scratch.
I spoke with one of the Project managers for QNAP a few years back about this issue. If QNAP can give you an image for the 473 you can use a compatible nvidia card plugged into the pci slot and boot via that for screen output.
this was the main reason they didn’t not recommend it to all, but it is achievable.
The gpu is installed. That is why I know that the NAS has no other defaults. If only I had the image file then I would be a very happy man ![]()
I’ll have a look in my emails when I get home. I’m not sure if I got it or not. It was quite a few years back when I had asked.
Thank you so much for the effort. Fingers crossed. ![]()
Sorry for the late reply.,. I have searched all my emails and found the email/conversation with QNAP Jason back in 2020 regarding the availability of the firmware. The support leader was asked to provide image for support, if a user had a graphics card. I am guessing this never actually happened in the end.
No image was provided to me at the time, I actually did not need it, I was more curious why it was not supplied. so this maybe an uphill battle I guess.
If you cant get the image then I would guess you maybe able to use a TrueNAS image on the device instead perhaps? I had a 473 a while back and did boot to TrueNAS via a USB flash drive, so it should be possible.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help in this situation.
@SteveKo is it possible to supply the use with an image for him? He has a relevant Graphics card, he just require the image.
There is no reason for an apology.
I am glad that you have committed yourself to trying to solve my problem. My gratitude for that.
In the meantime, I have also been in contact with QNAP support. They gave me a link to download the firmware but the link didnt work. They said they will get back with me. SO maybe they can do something to help me. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks again for your efforts in this.
Our Support team will be able to assist you with this. However, in addition to firmware recovery, the issue you’ve described also sounds a bit like a hard drive problem.
You might also consider checking your hard drive health and simply trying to reinstall the firmware .
Thanks!
Thank you all for your replies.
I am very happy that you are able to assist me with this matter. The hard drive health was good, but I will most certainly check them again once the firmware is installed properly.
Can you tell me how I am able to get this firmware? Or do you refer to the support ticket I was talking about in earlier post?
Just to clarify, our Support team will continue to assist you directly through the support ticket you’ve opened. Please continue to communicate with them there for further assistance.
Thank you. This morning I have received a working link and downloaded the firmware for the TS-473.
Hopefully this will fix my NAS. Thank you all for helping me out. All the best.
I’m just curious. I have 2 QNAP NAS devices. Is the firmware you received via the “working link” different from the firmware provided for all devices under the support tab?
