TS251 not working anymore

My TS-251 suddenly stop working.

Symptoms: not anymore to see on Windows Explorer nor QFile Pro,

Have tried to start without HDD and to clean the RAM without success.

LED for Status and HDD1 are well GREEN

Start procedure goes thorugh 1st black screen (decrompressing Linux, booting the kernel).

Then I reach the 2nd black screen showing “starting” and it stops here.

I have heard about a typical failure mode of this TS25 related to “LPC clock bug”

Do you see other tests to perform to identify the root cause?

Thanks in advance for your help!

LPC death would make the DOM not work (DOM is connected via the LPC bus)

If your NAS goes all the way to ‘booting kernel’, the LPC death seems unlikely.

Firsts things first, What was the disk config (RAID1,0,Spanning JBOD) are there backups (I hope so) and how current are they ?

Hi Dolbyman

Thank you for your prompt answer.

I can only say that I had only one HDD connected so no backup. Does it answer your question ?

I should also maybe mention that the NAS was still working locally in a first step but not anymore remotely.

At that time, the NAS was not anymore to see on Windows Explorer but still available on QFile Pro.

Then I had a look on File Station 5 and the NAS directory was also missing.

I have also checked the SMB configuration : it was 2 or 3.

I then also lost the local access and was not anymore able to reboot.

Do not mix up RAID wih a backup, even with RAID you need a backup.

So you had a single disk, no RAID AND no backup, so what was the plan for the inevitable disk failure ? (a NAS is not magic and prolongs your disk life forever)

Depending how important the data on your NAS is, contact a data recovery specialist to secure the data on your NAS (no, you cannot simply connect the drive to any Windows or Mac computer , they cannot read the drive) As long as the drive still works, chances are good, that the costs are managable. If the drive died, then it will be much much more expensive.

Anything random changes you do to your NAS, could erase the data on it.
