I successfully repaired my failed TS-251+ with the resistor hack, and want to repurpose it as a dedicated QVR Surveillance NVR. Qnap used to post lots of tutorials, but I haven’t found anything on this app other than the feature page here: Build Your AI Video Surveillance System with QVR Surveillance Solution | QNAP
Not very much about it here on the Community board either. Any pointers to a setup/users guide would be appreciated
If there’s a tutorial for QVR Pro or QVR Elite then QVR Surveillance follows the same concepts.
It’s pretty straight forward to set it up as an NVR. My TS-451 is doing just that…
Thanks, they have this QVR Pro guide from 5 years ago, I’ll see what changed over that time.
Looking at the change log for QVR Surveillance, it’s a descendant from QVR Elite.
It’s a descendant of both really. There is a bit of each of QVR Pro and QVR Elite mixed in. Kind of the best of both worlds really.

We will continue writing, and you can also bring up any parts that you are particularly interested in.
These are helpful, thanks! One thing that I would like to know is: what are the advantages or disadvantages of having multiple storage spaces vs. using a single storage space?
If you need more room. Such as if you add cameras or get higher rez cameras.
A single recording space is generally easier to manage and allows assigned cameras to share the available recording capacity.
Multiple recording spaces allow different retention periods and, when placed on separate storage pools, separate the write load across physical disks.
Put all HDD into a single RAID is easier to setup, but we will recommend to separate the Volume for system and the Volume for system recordings to different Pool to increase the number of camera supported on the same NAS.
