Hi all
I have a QNAP TVS-671 with 16Gb of ram and I have read that this can be increased.
Can someone advise what I need to buy and if the upgrade makes much difference.
Many thanks

According to the QNAP specs, this model can accept a maximum of 16GB.

Now, you may be able to add more but that may or may not work. For example, one of my models TVS-672XT is spec’d a 32 GB but I have heard people using up to 64 GB.
You model uses DDR3 RAM. Unfortunately, I don’t know the clock speed. You would need to look on the RAM that is in your unit and figure it out from the manufacturer part number listed on the memory module. It may be hard to find these days and very expensive.
Quickly looking on Amazon, it seems like 8GB modules are very common. 16GB modules not so much. A 32GB (2x16) is $300 but I’m not going to post the link as I don’t know if that is compatible with your NAS. It’s a PC3-12800, but there’s also a lot of PC3-10600 memory out there. So you would have to figure out the correct type of DDR3.
Does it help? Depends on what you do but it sure can
Thank you for your response, appreciated.
AS for the second part of your question “makes much difference” it would depend massively on what you’re using the unit for and how busy it is.
Increasing RAM shouldn’t make it any slower but it might not make it any faster, depending what it’s doing at any time.
Try running QBoost and see how much free memory you have now.
Regarding the installation issue you’ve encountered, we recommend referring to the official Hardware User Guide. Thank you for your inquiry!
