TVS 871 QTS 5.2.8.3359 drives 7 and 8 missing after updating to this firmware

I’m using in this unit 8 HDDs, only 2 have a problem, these are WD-WCC7K7LL9KZK, these are the only WCC7 models of the 8, both became unseen after the firmware update. It seems to me I have the following challenge:

On TVS-871, QTS 5.2.8 introduced:

  • Faster SATA link-timeout

  • More aggressive power-state enforcement

Older WD Reds:

  • Spin up slower

  • Respond later to IDENTIFY after reset

Result:

QTS decides the bay is “empty” → Not inserted

Linux often still sees the disk — QTS just refuses to attach it.

I went back to 5.2.7 and the issue was resolved, please look into this!

We could not find the related info on QTS 5.2.8 release note. After consulting with our engineers, please help to issue a support ticket and include your NAS log for further investigation.
