TVS-AIh1688ATX

well, QNAP has now put this new QNAP on their website. I saw it first in April 2025, and I felt “who cares - no one can afford U.2 NVMe drives” -

and then I saw this -

has Phison come to their senses ? All of a sudden, this now becomes very appealing. If you want a crazy fast 25G NAS system.

Maybe they are making so many now, they can build them cheaper?

QNAPS documentation seems to be all over the place for the TVS-Aih1688atx. In some places it says it actually has U.3 ports in the 2.5in slots so that supports U.2 and SATA SSDs. The website, tech specs and user guide all say something a little bit different. QNAP tech support says it will support SATA SSDs. I placed my order and fingers are crossed.

Hello Daaknes, my old friend. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I admire your confidence, I hope you’re not disappointed.

The 4x U.2 bays TVS-AIh1688ATX can also support SATA SSDs. We are ensuring that the specs are consistent on website and user manual. https://www.qnap.com/en/product/tvs-aih1688atx/specs/hardware

I remembered when I looked up the price of the Phison 15.36 TB drives, and said at the time “wow - they really dropped their prices” - well, this post is now 23 days old, and Phison raisesd their prices again dramatically - its now $1921 for a single 15.36 TB drive. Wow. $8000 for four drives that will give you 45 TB of storage after RAID 5 (and I am not counting over provisioning).
