TVS-h874 and QNAP 10G card

Hi -

well - I like things to be easy and cheap, and it’s getting harder and harder to do this. I have installed a lot of TVS-h874 systems with the QNAP QXG-10G2T or QXG-10G1T 10G cards - but it appears that these 2 cards are now “end of life” or “discontinued”. So the new 10G card is the QXG-10G2T-X710, BUT it requires a BIOS upgrade to the TVS-h874. It’s enough headache to get clients to open up the TVS-h874 and put in the 2 M.2 drives and the 10G card - but NOW, I would need to do a BIOS update on a new system as well !!!

So I guess I am being forced to move over to the TVS-h1288AX, which is a great product, and I have installed these as well, and it comes with the dual 10G card - but it’s a lot more money !

If I can’t complain to YOU - then who can I complain to ?

Maybe a dumb question, but compared to you I am a dumb guy…so humor me.

The TVS-h874 comes with dual 10G capability. And you are adding more? At that point, I would add a 25G card…

well Jon - you are NOT a dumb guy - you know as much, or more than I do. Dolby knows more than we do - as does Steve Ko on this forum. But this does not excuse Steve Ko and QNAP from not informing users of their plans, and what they are going to discontinue.
The TVS-h874 does NOT come with dual 10G availability -

you have to pay for the 10G card with this model.

and you won’t get 25G speeds (2200 MB/sec) with only 8 SATA drives.

Ha, oh Bob you talk to QNAP reps more than I do…pretty sure you have more of a scoop.

I still have a stash of the QNAP 10GbaseT cards here as the passive variant loves to die within warranty.

But yeah QNAP needs to keep up with stock of compatible cards

the discontinued cards are Marvell AQC-107 or AQC-113 cards. Same 10G chip as Apple uses.

So are these "discontinued " ? I am shocked that QNAP wants to use Intel based 10G chip cards at the elevated price. There must be some kind of politics going on here. As far as I am concerned, Intel is “done” - so I was shocked to see this.
